Where can I get a mac 101 dvd player free download??? can i get it at the apple store?? please help?

Q. please, please help me. this is driving me crazy. all i can find on the website about this is the info, but nothing about downloading it. i really need help!!!

Answer
What do you mean? Macs ship with an app called DVD Player that's built into OS X. Also, you can download VLC for free: it's a multi-use media player that plays just about everything - including DVD's.

If you accidently deleted DVD Player you can re-install it from the Restore Disk - just put the disk in and select "install bundled software" and un-check everything except DVD Player.

When using the burn mac app, should I make it a DVD-Video, or Div-X?

I want to burn a full length movie, but I don't know which format I should burn to...

Does anyone else use this program, and know which looks better?

I currently have the movie in both a .avi and a .mp4 file.

Answer
To play in a regular DVD player, it has to be DVD-Video format.

A Divx dvd can only be played in a computer (or special DVD player that says Divx on it) but it can store more videos than the conventional DVD format.

DVD-Video is capable of better quality than Divx, but their are more important factors affecting quality.

Every time a video is compressed, it looses quality. You want to make the video go through as few compressions as possible. Your AVI and MP4 videos are already compressed; ideally, you want to start with uncompressed video. MP4 is the highest quality compression, and DVD-video is very high quality compression too, so it might not look so bad using the MP4 and DVD-Video. But they are two different compression formats, so transferring between the two will loose video quality. AVI and Div-X video are the same compression, so using the AVI and on a DIVX DVD should result in no further compression.

For the best possible quality, just burn a Data DVD with the MP4 on it. It's the highest quality compression, and copying it straight to the disk will mean no further compression. But, it will only play in computers (or special DVD players that say MP4 on them).

Interested in buying region free Japanese anime. Will I be able to play on my DVD player?

DemonBookL

I've found a website that looks pretty legitimate that carries the Japanese anime box sets I'm interested in. Although they are coded as region free I'm still concerned they might not work in my DVD player. Also, I'm worried that if they do work in my player I won't be able to navagate the menu to turn on the English subtitles. I'd hate to waste the money on something I can't use and would love to hear from anyone who has had experience in this.
Do they sometimes have English and Japanese menus?

Answer
If the DVD is free of region encoding, then you should be able to play it on any DVD player.

As for the menus, that's going to come down to whether they were designed well and whether they have English or only Japanese.

As for the subtitles, many DVD remotes have a subtitle button to let you easily toggle through the subtitle options.

EDIT
I don't know if they have Japanese and English menus, but if the DVD was intended to be sold in US markets, it's very possible they do. Again, this comes down to how the DVD was designed. But even if all the menus are in Japanese, it should still play on your DVD player if it doesn't have region encoding.

where can I buy a region free DVD player?

Nightwishf

because I'm looking for one.

Answer
Well Nightwishfan, I typed DVD Player - region free into the search bar and there were many choices. I tried one listed as 220-electronics and they have plenty of different models listed. The manufacturers were Panasonic, JVC, Pioneer, Toshiba, Samsung, Sony, LG and more. Prices ranged from $36.00 and up to ridiculous. They also have many Blu-ray players that are also region free listed, prices at a quick glance were $99.00 and up. Try this link below.

How important is DVD player quality when hooked to receiver?

Juke Nibi!

I'm planning on purchasing a new DVD (not blue ray!), and there are all kinds of price ranges and features. I have a somewhat high end receiver, an Onkyo tx-sr876, with top of the line features.

What I want to know is how 'cheap' is too cheap on a DVD player... What should I look for? Obviously I want the best picture/audio quality to be sent to the receiver and from there to the speakers and tv monitor.

Is it worth or not buying a high end DVD player of $400 when the processing will be done by the receiver? Will a cheap-ish DVD ruin the quality? Any guidance will be appreciated... :)
For the record, I'm looking into an Oppo DV-980H or DV-981HD or a Sony BDP-S550
I know the BDP from sony is blue ray... sorry.

Answer
Upconverting done by any Receiver is rarely going to be as good as that done by a good Upconverting DVD Player. I would recommend the Oppo, they are truly great units. Let your receiver pass the 1080P signal through and do what it does best, make the movie sound great.

PC HD vs HD upscaling DVD player?

Nyx

Hiya,

I have a 8800GTS graphics card (HD) connected to my HD TV using a DVI to HDMI cable. I also have a HD upscaling DVD player connected using HDMI. Would there be any difference in the playback quality of the DVD? Do I still need the DVD player?

Sound quality is better though the PC.

Answer
It depends. Which one gives the better output picture. Older models of upscaling DVD player tend to give poorer upscaling results than newer models, but this is not always the case. In your eyes, which gives the better picture? Remember that you can upgrade the computers decoding software to get a better picture.

As the PC sound quality is better, unless the output picture is noticeably poorer, I would use the PC for upscaled DVD output, unless you have a need to quickly load and play a DVD (For instance if the PC takes a while to boot up).

Burned DVD, no sound?

Jaz Lewis

Ok, I have Windows 7 on my HP Compaq 8510p. I'm trying to burn a DVD using the Windows DVD Maker program. I've wasted about 4 DVD disks so far trying to burn a movie, the picture is PERFECT, but no sound? The menu sound is working though? Now, I have already have the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack & the DivX Codec Pack along with the DivX Converter. I've already checked my sound settings in the Device Manager and properties. I've tried everything, so what exactly am I doing wrong? I've even tried using the Windows Media Centre program to burn my movie DVD, but still, no sound. I've tried it on our Blu-Ray player, DVD player and also tried playback on my laptop. What steps should I try next?
Also, my movie file is an AVI. format file.

Answer
Windows DVD Maker program requires external codecs, and I never used it.
Why not to try the software I use called "ConvertXtoDVD".
It will convert avi videos to DVD format and burn directly to DVD.
http://www.i-burner.com/convertxtodvd.php
All you need to do, is to drag and drop your videos to the program. Click convert then after it finishes it will burn directly to DVD disc.

Is there any region free player software for me to play on windows 7?

Charlse

When I try to play my DVD, the system always inform me to set a region code, sometimes it still suck to play DVD player software. What about another one

Answer
All the above is good advice - there are other choices too - plus you can get a small free app to do it in windows media player. (Major Geeks may have it)
Try AfterDawn.com, Ask Leo, Gizmo's, or Widows Club for sage advice.

There are also free codec packs which may/may not help you (Klite is biggest, but not the only one)

My windows 7 media player never asks me to set a region code. Sorry, I can't remember how/if I actually tweaked it.

How to make a dvd with windows 8 movie maker?

ME

I need help, I need to make a dvd and I cant do it with windows 8 movie maker

Answer
Hi There,

have had the same problem using Windows Movie maker using Win 7 home.
I could make a video , edits, transitions, title ,etc and burn to a DVD.
The computer could play it but not our home DVD player.

After trying several other programs there is one that is small, simple and it will burn a DVD that will work on our home DVD player.

The one that works is "Freemake Video Converter". It is free and allows joining several clips together. You can even "join" clips in different formats and it converts them to the format you select or will burn to a DVD-R disk.

It can open almost any format and save to most formats. If you want to burn a DVD you just select "DVD" and insert the DVD disk and click on "Burn"...that's all you have to configure.

One thing I found was you need to burn DVD-R (not DVD+R ). The plus R disks did not work for me. I doubt that rewritable DVD work work too.

Here is the link for the free download...http://www.freemake.com/
Hope this helps,
Al

HOW TO WATCH DVD ON WINDOWS 8?

me.

I FEEL REALLY STUPID, OKAY.
So like, I'm "borrowing" my brother's new fancy Windows 8 laptop to watch my Bourne movies that I just bought a;lsdfj;alsdjfasf and I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO LIKE WATCH IT. On my old laptop (Windows 7) all I had to do was pop a DVD in, the Media Player screen showed up, and the movie started playing like automatically. So how can I watch a DVD???????? And I really don't want to like download any special app because it will take forever and yeah.

Pleeeeeeeeeease help me.
thankss.xx
UHHHHH, EXCUUUUUUUUUUSE ME MR. BC DUDE GUY MAN. Okay, I just think that there is a simple way to watch this movie without downloading an app, ALRIGHT?!??! I just think I'm missing something here... SMARTASS.

Answer
Sadly, they took out the DVD playback in Windows 8 so you can't use Windows Media Player for that anymore. Kinda lame, I know.

Search his PC for other playback software like PowerDVD or WinDVD or just download VLC and play your movie that way.

Hi which Toshiba HD-DVD player should I buy for my "50" Hitachi HDTV/LCD & it is 1080i resolution?

GAMER VET

Hi I want to buy Toshiba HD-DVD player. Since my HDTV it is 1080i resolution & I am looking for cost less then $220.

Thank you!
Please don't tell me to buy the blu-ray instead! I choose HD-DVD & everyone has different taste. I also don't care of the format war either! The format war will be over in the next 9 yrs.

Answer
HD DVD is the better choice for HD disks ... more capable player and stable/final specification. I've also read that HD DVD players are better upscaling DVD players for when you want to watch DVDs. Ignore all the brainwashed blu-ray fans!

That said you really only have one choice if you want the Toshiba name on it ... the HD-A3 (and since you only have a 1080i HDTV it's all you need.

However, there is another option -- the Venturer SHD7000 -- $198 at Walmart. In reality it is a rebranded HD-A3 so it's really a Toshiba. The only consideration is the "free" disk offer. As I understand it the real Toshiba qualifies for more movies, so the price difference (based on what price you can find the HD-A3 at) may be the deciding factor. Your choice. Is a up converting DVD player worth buying, does it work good with a HDTV?

Q. Is a up converting DVD player worth buying, does it work good with a HDTV?

Answer
Upconverting DVD players (or blu-ray players for that matter) are only worthwhile if you have a HDTV. They will do nothing to enhance your image on a regular TV.

Since blu-ray players will also upconvert DVDs on HDTVs, the only reason to buy just an upconverting DVD player instead of a blu-ray player is the fact that upconverting DVD players are under $50 whereas blu-ray players are about $150.

Should I buy a DVD player/recorder or a DVD burner for my pc?

jlennon109

ok, I already have Dish network DVR, but it would be possible to transfer from that to a dvd, although I also want to put video camera movies onto dvds, idk if there are player/recorders that have usb ports that work very well

Answer
It really depends on what you would like to do!

If you want to record TV shows permanently to DVD, buy a DVD player / recorder.

But, if you are going to edit your home movies onto DVD's, I would recommend a DVD burner for your PC. There are many programs out there today that allow you to professionally edit your home movies, add titles, create professional looking menus, etc, etc. Very simple and easy to do!

With the standalone player/recorder, you do not get these options, just a cheap little menu.

Also, a dvd burner on your PC is alot more helpful when you want to burn copies of your homemade videos for family members. It can burn up to 24 times, whereas with the standalone, it does it in real time, like a VHS recorder.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Q: What is the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R? Is DVD+R better than DVD-R?

kantash200

Answer
'Better' is such a difficult word, don't you think? There is, for sure, a difference, and it's important under some circumstances. But, to tease out an answer to this, I'll supply a little background first.

DVD is essentially a tighter form of the CD. The little bitty pits are smaller, closer together, and the spiral track they're on is tighter, and so on. But, how the data is arranged on the disk (within the file system) differs between CDs and DVDs. There were lots of different arrangements for CD (CD-ROM, CD-Audio, CD-SA, CD-Interactive, Blue Book, White Book, etc, etc...). It was a confusing mess. CD drives with the Multi-Read logo are supposed to be able to cope with most of this.

The DVD folk went for a single file system, at first, but have since become 'more flexible'. And, beneath the file systems themselves, there can be differences in how sectors are tracked, how error correction is done, and other even more esoteric differences. Even though the pits and lands are essentially the same between -R and +R.

DVD-R (and -RW) was released to market first. It is optimized (at the sector management and error correction levels) for streaming data. This is the sort of thing you get in video and audio information (in which data is largely read one sector after another after another) and jumping to a different sector for the 'next' batch of data is rare.

DVD+R (and +RW) was introduced a little later, and for a more general purpose. It was designed to accomodate data which was less streaming oriented, and which required jumping around from sector to sector to find the 'next' chunk. So +R disks can manage streaming data, AND non-streaming data. As well, because this is often computer data (whether programs or data) in which a single bit error might be disastrous, +R error correction is far better than -R. If you're creating a DVD with computer data on it (not just streaming data) you're better off with +R or +RW. The usual sort of streaming data is typically far less sensitive to the odd lost or damaged bit here or there, since we will see it only as a momentaty glitch in the image or a brief 'tick' in the audio (at most).

These arrangements are sufficiently different between -R and +R that some drives (and drive software) were unable to read both. This has largely disappeared as a problem (especially for drives intended for computers) since more recent drives (the last few years, anyway) will read all (or most) formats. There are still some DVD players (ie, for movies) which can't read +R however, even if there's a movie recorded on it.

So my advice is to use only +R (or +RW) unless you know for sure that the only data you'll be writing to the DVD is of the streaming sort (ie, video or audio). Since this is hard to manage (some video/audio recording software might park some computer data on the DVD while doing the streaming stuff; easy to provide more 'features' that way), you'll often be somewhat out of touch with what is really going on. Or, perhaps, the DVD drive you have will only read -R, in which case that's all you can use. If so, it will probably be somewhat elderly by now, however, and with drive prices well below US$50-60 (if you buy right), there's little reason to stick with so elderly a disk drive.

===========
Use as computer backup

One of the major uses for large capacity DVDs is backing up computer data. Of course, some of us blithely hope we'll never need a backup... This is simply foolish and feckless and silly. Ostriches are just as silly when they (legendarily) stick their heads in the sand. Those of us with a little more good sense hope that we'll never need them, but hard drives do fail, and computers do get damaged by a lightning strike or floods or kids or pets or ... If you need a backup, it had best be the highest quality copy you can manage, and in DVDs that implies +R (or +RW) rather than -R (or -RW) since there is better error correction in those disks.

But, while on the subject of CD and DVD backups, there is something to note that seems not very widely known. CD and DVD data is stored in the differences between very very tiny 'pits' and the adjacent 'lands'. A dust particle (almost no matter how small) is more than enough to interfere with many of these. As is corrosion or tarnish or indeed anything which changes the reflective properties of the surface in which the pits and lands are (for a factory pressed CD or DVD) or in the material which is changed by the writing laser to make the 'pits' (in the Write Once, Read Many times or the Rewriteable types). The surfaces are protected on one side (the side that faces the read or write laser) by a thickness of laser transparent plastic. On the other side of the recording surface, it's protected by a layer of paint -- well, lacquer really -- which is only a few thousandths of an inch thick. It's that side the label is printed on. And, for two layer disks, the printed label will be confined to a donut around the center hole since the printing will interfere with the laser if it's on either disk surface. In the case of dual layer disks, there are two readable surface layers accessible from one side. The lower layer is just read through the higher layer by changing the focus ofhte read laser beam. Sneaky, but it works...

Anyway, the way that CDs and DVDs are built has implications for their use as backup media. If only a thin layer of lacquer protects the reading/writing surface, your data depends on that layer staying intact. No scratches, no 'vacations' in the application of the lacquer in the factory, no especially vulnerable thin layers, ... When outside air, moisture, pollutants, ... come in contact with the recording surface (usually backed by a very thin layer of a reflective metal -- gold, aluminum, ...) for any reason, the damage to that surface may (and usually does) make the data there unreadable, regardless of any sort of error correction. That's why you're not supposed to use a ball point pen to write on the disk label, nor to use some kinds of markers since their ink might damage (soften or dissolve) the lacquer surface. If some of your valuable backup data was there, it's gone now. And this corrosion problem is true even for the disk edge since air, moisture, ... can enter there too. Don't let the edges of your CDs and DVDs get scuffed or nicked or ...

CDs and DVDs are attractive as backup media (small, lightweight, cheap, ...), but they're much more fragile than is usually ever appreciated. If you use them, protect them very very well. They are not at all sturdy or tough, really.

========
Dual something

The dual sided DVDs and the dual layer DVDs and the dual-both DVDs aren't much of an issue here. The differences between -R and +R are in how sectors are managed, not in bulk issues like how a DVD disk is put together and how many layers or sides are included.

Why does my elderly mom hate throwing things away?

Jessica Ag

sometimes she will take things out of the trash and clean them to keep them. Its best not to ask her if she wants something when you are throwing it out because she will keep it. She has two DVD players in her room that no one uses including her.

Today she kept my cats mat that i would put in front of her litter box to catch her litter. so she could put it in front of the dish washer. it really grossed me out and annoyed me that she dug it out of the trash like that.

I feel bad thinking bad things. but to me its just so disgusting. i was thinking perhaps its because she was born in cuba and would constantly have police coming in and taking her things. We are doing okay financially, but perhaps she still feels that fear that someone will take away her belongings.
killer polo: have some respect, she is my mother. I know there is a reason for the things she does. I want to help her not hurt her.
wow, such great answers! I feel awful now for the bad thoughts that i had. I will try to be more understanding and respectful. but at the same time, i'll try to throw out whats really not necessary in a way that she wont find out.

Answer
A really good clue is that she came from Cuba. You didn't say how long ago she left Cuba but there has been an embargo against Cuba and it's hard to bring anything into the country so people are and were very frugal and creative in keeping old things and finding a way to repair them. If she has two working DVD players they are still good to use for something and may come in handy some day. Yes, the litter box mat would be gross and unsanitary to use in the kitchen but she is probably still in the mindset of not throwing something away if it can be used for anything, including a repair of something else. Best not to argue with her, just get her another mat and be discreet in tossing stuff out like that so that she doesn't retrieve them. Elderly people who went through the Great Depression in the U.S. were also great savers of anything that might remotely be used for anything...my uncle would pick up things he found during his work day on the farm and stuff them in his overalls pockets, it was always interesting to see what he would pull out of his pockets at the end of the day....pieces of baling wire, string, old nails & screw, washers, etc. He had shelves in his old smoke house full of old jars filled with such items and most never got used before we left the farm.

I wanted to buy a movie in a blu ray disc.To watch the movie in 3d, I want to know if I need to buy it as a 3d blu ray disc or just a blu ray disc. For the movie to be good 3D, you need a disc that has a 3D movie on it. Some players can convert 2D to 3D but that doesn't work remotely as well as 3D source material.

How Do I Connect DVD Player to Dish-TV?

Mike S

I am renting APT with Dish Network included in rent. I bought DVD player and would like to know how to connect the device. Do I connect the cables white, red, yellow from DVD player to the back of Dish Box? Or do I connect to TV? I tried just to quickly connect to TV and got only video no audio. All the cables where connected in the right way. White to white, red to red and yellow to yelow. Any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Answer
The connectors on the back of the Dish box are outputs, not inputs. Dish box needs to be connected to the TV, as does the DVD player. If you have more than one set of input connectors on the TV, you can connect both and control which input you see and hear with your remote. If not, you may need an external AV switch to determine which input is connected to the TV.

Before you do anything, you ought to consult TV, DVD player and Dish box user manuals for a hook up diagram. Different sets have a variety of connection options. I have no way of knowing what you have sight unseen.

Does anyone make a wireless DVD player?

WIL33562

In the master bedroom of our new house we have a corner fireplace with a cable outlet and electrical outlet just above it to mount a flat screen tv.

We currently have a 32" flat screen that does not have a built in DVD player. There is no way to mount a DVD player above the fireplace and showing any of the wires is out of the question. I'm wondering if anyone make a wireless DVD player that will reach from about 15' away? My plan is to put the DVD player in one of the night stands beside the bed and have a wireless signal sent to the TV if this is possible.

Thanks,

Help, Can my family watch netflix movies on a dvd player?

Sheila Col

like either a portable dvd player or one you hook up? obviously we could watch on the computer but still i dont see why we couldnt watch it on a dvd player cuz netflix would be sending us DVD's and last time i checked DVD PLAYERS PLAYED DVD'S so yea can some one who has netflix help me? cuz we dont have a tv with blue ray or a game system thats enabled with it either. thank you

Answer
There are two methods to watch Netflix movies.

1. Stream the movie, (which you can't do on a plain old DVD player) or

2. Watch the movie on a DVD Netflix sends you.

The answer should be obvious but if it isn't, you can watch Netflix movies via method #2, but you can't watch movies via method #1.

What kind of DVD player should I get that also allows me to watch online movies from netflix?

paulbunyan

I want to get a DVD player that will play high Definition dvds, and will let me watch instant online movies from netflix

Any ideas?

10 points to the best!

Answer
For HD you need a Blu-ray player, not a DVD player. That said, one of the most reasonable is the Insignia player sold at Best Buy (it's their house brand). Netflix and Best Buy just announced a partnership (See link). In Canada the basic player sells for $170 (2nd link).

I suggest anyone replacing a DVD player these days consider a Blu-ray player. Why? Because, that way you have the capability to play Blu-ray disks if/when you find them at an acceptable price, and in the meantime Blu-ray players make a good upscaling DVD player for your existing collection.

DVD recorder/players?

Gigi

Does anyone have any information on an LG DVD Recorder / Player?

I have enough points to get either a Panasonic DVD Recorder with VCR (no other info is available) or the LG Recordable DVD Player with progressive-scan DivX/4 MPEG4 playback, editing. ( I just copied down the facts from the description, I don't know anything about them. ) I want to transfer a bunch of old VHS tapes while theyâre still in pretty good shape.
Or, should I buy a different one altogether, and use the points for something else?
My TV is a 4-year old 27â Sony Wega.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gigi

Answer
If you'd like to do any editing of your VHS tapes prior to transferring them to DVD, it would be helpful to get a machine with a built in hard drive with editing capabilities. I got a Sylvania V200F for the purpose of converting my old VHS tapes to DVD, and it's great, but I'm not sure it's being produced anymore.

I like it because I can copy a VHS tape to the hard drive, edit out anything I don't want to save, and then go from the hard drive to a DVD.

Good luck!

DVD Recorders?

Sharon B

Can someone give me advice on buying a DVD recorder? I'd like to start with an inexpensive but reliable brand. The one's I've seen so far (at Wal-Mart, K-Mart) are definitely in my price range, but are brands I've never heard of.

Also, are there certain features I should be sure the recorder has?

I'm looking to not only record programs from TV to DVD, but to also transfer movies from VHS to DVD. Any help appreciated.

Answer
I have had a high rate of failure in DVD recorders, so if you can buy a longer replacement warranty do so, and keep all of the paperwork during the warranty time.
As your wanting to copy your VHS tapes you will need something like the "Sima CopyThis! CT-1 Video enhancer" It get around the anti copy safe guards put on tapes that prevent you from copying them. You can most likely find one on E-bay, or look for a new one if they are sill being offered for sale.
Here is a link to one, they say it's discontinued but I am sure one can be found with some more effort.
Some recorders can use both DVD+r and DVD-R media, or watch closely that you buy the correct DVD media for your recorder.

Do not buy a unit that has both the VHS player and the DVD recorder in the same unit, as you can not place the "Copy this" unit in line between them, and will not be able to record from most tapes.

The unit I am useing now was from Walmart, on a $50.00 clearance, it is the best one I have had yet, I do not recall the brand.

Can you hook a dvd player up to an acer iconia A500-10S16w?

Leah

Can you hook a dvd player up to an acer iconia A500-10S16w tablet?
If so what kind? a normal kind or one made for a computer? Thanks.
Leah :)

Answer
There is no way to connect a DVD player. The acer iconia A500-10S16w has no "Video input" as far as I know. The alternative would be a dvd ripping software that can rip a dvd to acer tablet compatible video files for watching a dvd movie on acer tablet ... Below is a dvd ripper app i ever used for my tablet, it is not bad. You can check it via the link in the source box if interest:

Can a DVD+R disc be used to play music on a pirtable CD player?

patricia

*portable

Answer
Yes...a DVD could be burned for a CD player depending which App your are using....Like Nero to Roxio that'll do ya....

Many of the newer CD players to compete with iPods and alike have made their what is called an MP3 CD Player so you are able to lay down on a DVD a whole lot of songs......as in over 200-300 depending on the length of the audio file.......so cutting to the chase it holds a whole lot of music. Look at the CD Player and see if you see the words CD/MP3 player or something like that.

dvd burning?

Amandaa K

hi i use lime wire and download avi and mpg to dvd -rw and some will play on my dvd player on my tv and some will not, why is this? Some of them are too big to and wont fit on disk step by step how to i fix this so i can play them oh tv dvd recorder. Also i decided to use dvr-r instead of rw. My dvd recorder will say invalid disk/ no disk after I burn a something i know works on the disk .HELP IM NOT GOOD AT THIS STUFF BUT NEED TO BE.

Answer
1st- .avi's are usually DivX (a pay for use app-easy to use) or XVid (freeware but difficult to master). These wont play on standard DVD players unless they say DivX Certified. They will have to be converted to a standard MPEG using software like Nero Vision.

2nd-All MPEGS are not DVD compliant.

3rd-To shrink the movies, use DVDShrink. The easiest ripper is 1ClickDVDCopy. It'll rip and shrink the movie automatically.

4th-Most players wont read a dvd-rw. Just use dvd-r's.
5th-Dump limewire and use a bittorrent client like utorrent.

To learn the ins and outs of cd/dvd burning try http://www.afterdawn.com or http://www.doom9.org These sites are dedicated to recording. They offer plenty of tutorials from beginner to expert.
For bittorrent try http://dessent.net/btfaq/
Good luck....

I need a good car DVD player.?

Margie

I want one that straps to the head rest. And preferable one that takes the DVDs instead of having a DVD player hooked up to it. Something reasonably priced (under $100) but decent quality.

Answer
Straps to the head rest?, most of these are more expensive than $100. You might want to take a look at this one that is mounted in the head rest

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Chameleon+-+7%22+Widescreen+LED-LCD+Headrest+Monitor/1179266.p?id=1218230520410&skuId=1179266

When you are looking, look for DVD Player, not DVD Monitor, the monitor uses a separate dvd player

what brand is good for a car dvd player?

Amanda

i want to get a dvd player in my car because i do a lot of driving, i want one that goes in the front seat where the radio is and it would be nice if it had gps and the radio with it im not sure what a good brand to get is thanks in advance

Answer
If you do a lot of driving, a DVD player is no good for you. An in dash player is only able to be used when parked, because many places have distracted driving laws. If you want a DVD player for your passengers, that is a different thing.

The major aftermarket audio manufacturers have in dash DVD players.

DVD player with HDMI output and component input?

Martin

My main "TV" is actually a monitor, so it doesn't have traditional TV inputs like RCA or RGB. Right now, my current Wii setup is this:

Wii > (Composite Cables) > DVD Player > (HDMI Cable) > Monitor

This is a pretty good setup with one problem: the Wii can only connect to the DVD player through composite cables, so I'm limited to 480i. Are there any good DVD players that have both component input and HDMI output so that I can play my Wii games in progressive scan mode?

Answer
DVD players do not have inputs - DVD recorders have inputs.

What you need is a component to HDMI converter:

http://www.svideo.com/ypbpr2hdmi.html

what is the use of HDMI on this DVD player?????

Mooze

hi...I have an LG DVD player ...it cannot play HD-DVD and
BLU RAY....but still it HAS HDMI output which is connected to my HDTV.
is there any ADVANTAGE of HDMI if i can't PLAY HD-DVD and BLU RAY.....
plzzz
thanXX..
and yes...it displays DVD ripz in a high resolution..but not same as HD-DVD....

Answer
One advantage of HDMI cables is that it's all bundled in a single run. So it's easier hookup and less mess behind the equipment. For 1080p video games, you'll notice a slight difference between HDMI cables and good Component cables. Beyond that, it's worthless.

HDMI is just a cable; it doesn't upgrade anything. Your DVD apparently has an upconverter so you have the option of using an HDMI cable for direct connection. Saying that converting a standard signal to an HD signal will improve it is like saying that spraying perfume on a dog turd will improve it. The axiom has ALWAYS been: Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Use your HDMI cable if you like. It won't hurt anything. It also won't help anything, no matter what the geek hype. It's purely up to you.

hooking up sony blu ray player to netflix?

superaweso

Soooo, want to hook up my new sony blu ray/dvd player to netflix. It seems I need a wireless adapter. They run from 8-80 dollars. my question is, do I need a fancy one, or is any old usb wireless lan adapter going to work?

Answer
You need to buy one from Sony since it is a Sony Blu-Ray player. That is how they make their money. Otherwise you can always use a ethernet cable from your wireless router to the back of your blu-ray dvd player to stream Netflix which you won't need to buy a wireless adaptor.

Is there a regular DVD player (not blu ray) that steaks Netflix?

Verns

I know people say just get blu ray. But I am curious as to was there ever a reg DVD player that had Netflix streaming...

Answer
I don't believe so. I've never seen one. The reason is because there's no reason to get one. There are internet ready bluray players under $100 now. Plus they play regular DVD's so there's no need for internet ready DVD players. There's no market for them

can i connect a dvd player to a laptop?

fm m

Is it possible to connect my dvd player to my laptop and then watch the dvd's on the laptop? (my dvd rom doesnt work:( )
If it is possible, what cable do i need?

Answer
A regular DVD player? You'd need some type of video input on your laptop, which is unlikely that it comes with one, so you'd need a video capture card type device (either PCMCIA or USB). Then you just run the video out on the DVD player to your video in and run the audio out to the line-in on your sound card. But the quality is gonna suck and you're going to be lugging around a lot of equipment and cables just to watch a DVD.

I think a better solution would be an external PCMCIA DVD-ROM drive or just replace the internal DVD drive (you should be able to find the drive on eBay and replacing it is not THAT hard if you have a little knowledge about taking things apart).

Do laptop dvd players play dvd's from any region?

Becky

Ok very strange and nerdy question, long story on why I want to know. Im not evenb really sure what is meant by the term region I have an advent if that helps.
thanks

Answer
No.
DVD players play from one region at a time. You can reset that region 4 times, before the firmware disables that particular DVD drive. It does not matter if it is a laptop DVD drive or a desktop DVD drive.

It does not matter if your laptop is an Advent, or a Toshiba, or an Acer or a Dell.

Problem connecting DVD player to TV/VCR Combo?

SupaJ016

I recently inherited an old Panasonic Omnivision VCR Plus TV/VCR combo. I just plugged it in, set up the channels and stuck in a VHS tape. It works. Intending to set this up in a spare room for guests, I thought it would be nice to connect a DVD player to this as well. The TV only has two jacks on the front though: one video and one audio input. So, I plugged in these cables and connected them to the corresponding video and audio outputs on the DVD player. I get a picture but...no sound. Is there anything I can do to fix this??

Thank you.

There are a lot of portable DVD players on the market today, many of them selling under $100. Check WalMart, Sears or Circuit CIty.

Also, stop in at Radio Shack. The good thing about them is that you have 30 days to return the item if you don't like it, as long as you return it in the original box and it is in re-sellable condition.

Where can I find a case for portable dvd players to use in the car?

Mom of Thr

I don't want one that goes in between the seats as both of my kids have their own dvd play. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry meant to say they both have their own dvd players.

Answer
I don't have an answer specifically to your question - but I did want to mention - a 3lb DVD player, in a 20mph crash is like 60lbs of force crashing into your child's face. There have been many instances of people dying from head injury or internal bleeding due to a free laptop being projectiled into the air.

If you're set on having the DVD players in there, make sure they are installed in a way that they will not move in a crash, and also so they dont' interfere with any of the other passengers safety.

:) Safe travels.

How To Burn a VIDEO_TS Folder To DVD For It To Play On DVD Players?

I have a movie on my hard drive, which is a 7gb file. It is contained in a VIDEO_TS folder in several different files of VOB and others. I've burnt it to an 8.5gb DVD and it works on my laptop, but not in my Xbox 360 or other DVD players. How can I do this so it will play in other DVD players, I have plenty of discs and am willing to download software. All help is much appreciated.

Answer
Most dvd players only recognize standard video DVD well which include VOB, IFO and BUP files, and all files be placed in a VIDEO_TS folder, so you can directly burn the VIDEO_TS folder to your DVD disc as a standard video DVD, and you should note once burn complete, your burner software must close the dvd disc, can't use incremental burn mode. There is an easy way can help you, you can try RZ Free DVD Burner, it's free, it can directly burn hard drive video DVD folder(VIDEO_TS) to any DVD disc that can play well on DVD player, easy run rz free dvd burner then select "Burn video" to burn. You can yahoo or google search and download the RZ Free DVD Burner, it's free, easy to use, hope it can help you.

If you want to burn any videos to DVD, and can play well on normal DVD player, you should use the right software to burn standard video DVD from your videos, because most normal DVD player only recognize the standard video DVD, can't recognize the data DVD(directly write video files on disc, such as flv on disc). portable DVD player?

.:

I want to buy a portable DVD player.

Must have 10 inch screen or LOWER
Great quality
Well known company [not a must but I'd like so]

Answer
Everyone should have a portable DVD player because they can be hooked up to a TV like a regular DVD player.

I bought a LG® Portable DVD Player (2007) with 7" Screen LPA837, a CENTRIOS⢠(2006, The Source/old Radio Shack) brand 7" PORTABLE DVD PLAYER, and a Casio EV-680 3-inch portable TV.

I have been overall safisfied with all 3 products, and like taking my DVD player to go through a lot of CDs in libraries.

I just bought the LG because I'm loyal to Sears, and this was the only model with a USB port at Sears. I don't like to shop.

A must for a portable DVD player is a USB port, so I can enjoy MP3/WMA music, JPEG images, or DivX MPEG videos from my computer on my DVD player or on my TV using the audio/visual jacks.

My Centrios battery lasted 2 hours, and the smaller LG batter lasts 3 hours, 20 minutes. An annoyance is my LG won't charge while I'm watching it, but the Centrios can do both at the same

My LG better for viewing JPEG images because often to fill the screen with a portrait, I have to put the DVD player on its side, but the shapes and locations of jacks on the Centrios make this difficult. time.

I still wish my portable TV (maybe even a radio) were built into my portable DVD. player, and my last 2 links list some; however Synco is a Chinese company that I don't know, and the player referred to in Yahoo Answers has no USB port.

My Casio TV has been good too, but the rechargeable batteries only last about 1 hr., so I use a universal adapter for both my Casio TV and cell phone, and just find places to plug it in. I wish it had a radio because batteries do last a long time using radios. Portable TVs are hard to find in stores, so you should use the internet.

The 3 inch screen on the Casio TV is too small for watching any sports because the ball is small. Reception is a problem in about half of the locations you try. The biggest problem with my Casio TV is it is not stereo, which can make it harder to listen too, so I just take out the earphones usually.

Make sure you don't get told you are stealing power. At $0.11/kWh in Alberta, Canada, it costs hardly anything, but it's the principle.
