Maria

I already have a Netflix account and my samsung dvd player is connected to the internet. But Netflix doesn't appear on the samsung apps for me to download.. help.

Answer
You might try updating the firmware on your Samsung player to see if the Netflix app shows up. But if not - your player does not support Netflix.

Try the Western Digital TV Live box. It has 25 apps and the support is much better than bluRay based apps.

How can you connect a standalone dvd player to your PC and watch movies?

Answer
You can:

A) Install a TV tuner card which will allow you to not only plug in a DVD player or VHS player, it will also allow you to view TV on the PC as long as you plug in either cable or an antenna.

There are many different ones but here is an example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116007

Or

B) You can use a similar USB device, does pretty much the same thing but uses the USB port and you don't have to open the computer

Like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116034

But why would you want to??? Doesn't your PC have a DVD drive?, if not you can install one or get an external USB one.

where can i get information on using dvd player on pc?

Q. i was wandering if i have dvd player on my pc can i use it to play a dvd movie.

Answer
If you opened up the attachment that 'man' posted as your first answer. You received malware. Do not open any attachments today.

I just bought a Blu Ray Home Theater System that streams Netflix, Youtube, etc. But it doesn't have built in Wifi.

I have a wireless router from Comcast, but it's way behind the computer. Do I need to buy something else?

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4061/4691621510_78c4ff0bc8.jpg << That's it.

Answer
You just need a wireless adapter. Your bluray player should have a Ethernet slot. Plug that into wireless adapter. Not sure the actual name for the device. Just ask at best buy or an electronics store. If you could run Ethernet cable to router than that's easier because you wouldnt have to buy the adapter but buying that might be cheaper than buying a long enough ethernet cable.

Which is best as well as affordable blu ray dvd player?

Amily C

Hi,

I want to gift my husband blu ray dvd player. I dont have any idea which features I should be looking... Please suggest me some good and affordable options.

Answer
The best Blu-ray player for the money is the Playstation 3. It is a full featured Blu-ray player that supremely upconverts DVD's, as well as built in Wifi and a web browser and the ability to play back almost any media file. Did I mention it also plays games? For the money, the PS3 is the way to go.

Why was the DVD box set of the Earthworm Jim cartoon only released in Australia?

NauseousPe

That show was one of the most clever cartoons I've ever seen, but living in the US, my only option is to watch them on YouTube with the video squished to the top of the screen and NBC removing them one by one.
Does anyone have any idea why the DVD was only released in Australia, and if there's any chance that it could see a region 1 release?

Answer
The reason why the complete series is only released in Australia is because Vision Entertainment who released the complete series as a 5-disc set in Australia are a based DVD label taking premium DVD and video content to major retailers Australia and New Zealand wide. Other publishers such as Universal currently have no plans to release the show on DVD in the US although there is a chance seeing as how the TV series was released on June 1, 2011 for Australia and there is quite a demand for this series to be released for other regions seeing how the fan-base is quite large.

My advice to you if you no longer want to wait for the DVD's to release in your region would be to get a region free DVD player and buy the box set through an internet retailer such as Amazon.

Korean Airlines -- What is the correct power adapter type?

Gentlehear

I'm going on Korean Airlines soon and have tried calling their customer service but the representative had no idea as to what type of power adapter can be used to power a personal laptop, dvd player, etc. in the power outlet at many of the seats.

I would like to know if anyone has used a power adapter on Korean Airlines and if they remember what type of adapter they used.

I know this is a real specific question, but perhaps someone out there has an answer! Thanks!
Well if I was hooking up an electronic kidney dialysis machine, I would cease to exist if I couldn't. Yes, I am bringing a book but I have a seven year old and Korean Airlines doesn't have any children's programming on board and this is a thirteen hour flight.
Good grief! Everyone thinks I'm bringing a laptop! No, I am not. Certainly not for a seven year old! I was planning on her using a portable dvd player since the movies in flight on Korean Airlines are not kid's movies. Believe it or not, she will have coloring books too! Yes, I will be playing with her at times too. I'm giving up on this question as the two responders basically were being judgmental and opinionated rather than helpful.

Answer
Instead of bringing a laptop for your child, bring a few toys and a coloring book for him/her. There is no law stating you MUST occupy a child with internet games.

If your child does not like coloring or playing with toys, you should play WITH him/her. Kids always love it when parents play with them and you'd like it too! Eventually your son or daughter will fall asleep from excitement and then you can read.

Also, they usually have movies playing on flights. Just buy (some airlines have them free) some headphones and have your child watch the movie.

But be prepared in case the movie isn't appropriate for your child.

What can I do to make air travel easier on a 2 year old child?

Flower

I'm flying with my two year old daughter (for the first time), and I'm not quite sure how I'm going to keep her busy, and keep me sane.

Any tips?

Answer
my 4 year old has flown all over the world with us since he was 9 months old. we've flown short 4 hour flights as well as some 16-20 hour legs (calif to australia, europe, and israel.) we have learned a lot about what to pack and take with us. i would strongly recommend taking a either a laptop that plays dvds or a personal dvd player (they are pretty cheap now.) and headphones. either bring favorite dvds that you know they will watch or buy something new they will be excited to watch. (we also don't let my son watch tv too often, so getting to watch dvds on the plane is a big treat.) also, new or old favorite books are read during take off and landing. i also try to get treats that can be offered one by one. we do candy, gummy worms, starburst, something that will occupy their hands. and nutritional food, since the plane may not offer much as a meal. we also have in the past let him pick a toy at the airport. i know this seems a bit much but i think spoiling a bit on a flight is ok, because it's often too much for them. i'm very cranky and uncomfortable on long flights, so imagine what that does to a kid.

Answer
5 hours!?! Wow, and I thought 2 1/2 was bad! We recently learned that our 2 year old LOVES to watch movies on our lap-top. I think a portable DVD player would be perfect! Also take some coloring books and crayons and a small set of "Lego's". Be sure to take some books to read to him!

Will you recommend a portable DVD player for me?

Buggs

I will soon spend two weeks each month on the road. I've made this trip before so I know that some places we have to stop for the night are in the middle of nowhere. No cable, and sometimes only one lousy channel. I would like to watch one or two movies each night before I retire to bed. The movies are home recorded on DVD's. Running with AC current is my only power source interest. I could spend around $100 and don't care what brand it is. Any recommendations?

Answer
well, you can try buying it online or ebay for a cheaper one if your looking for a specific price range. Walmart has an 8" screen portable dvd player for under $100.>>> http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10340792
and heres the same one that comes with a case still under $100 >>> http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10913153

I'm tight with money right now and I am going to buy one or the other, I've never had a Soundbar before but neither have I had a 3d TV, what should I get first?!

Answer
First off you will need a tv and then a sound bar. I would not waste my money on a 3D technology that is not supported by software. Keep in mind, to watch in 3D you will need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray disc movie (at this time there are only 180 titles available in 3D and they are mainly animated movies from Disney) and 3D glasses for each person. The price is higher for any 3D product. Vizio is a bargain price tv that is not very good in quality or reliability. Sony is not know for making very good sound system and the quality and reliability have dropped over the years. I never had any Sony product that have lasted over 3 years. The first DVD player model 7000 and 7700 the following year and paid over $1,100 each. The first HDTV by Sony and paid $6,400. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on all products for a home theater. If you read yahoo questions all the time, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.

How can a 120 Mhz refresh rate make a picture clearer?

Angelo

Aren't we breaking laws of physics? A television camera scans at 60 Mhz, then sends out the signal to television sets. No matter how fast the refresh rate is on the television, you cannot reproduce a picture clearer than what the camera photographed, right? I do not understand all the hoopla about televisions with fast refresh rates.

Answer
LCD manufacturers started increasing the refresh rates of LCD displays because of a perception of image blurring during fast motion. There is more detailed information about that, and how much it actually helps, here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6449_7-6792632-1.html .

Another reason is that motion pictures are filmed at 24 fps (frames per second). The standard refresh rate for TVs in the U.S. has been 60Hz. To prepare 24 fps material for video display (such as on DVD), components of the image are repeated, so that film material can be stored at 30Hz for video. This way a TV can get frames that divide into a whole number for correct display and timing (60/2=30). The problem is that detail is sacrificed somewhat to create the illusion of 30 from 24 (the extra frame data is an approximation, and not original material).

Blu-ray discs can preserve the structure of 24 fps film by encoding the video at 24Hz. If you have a 60Hz Tv, then the Blu-ray player will have to make up the intermediate frames to get an even number, because 60/24=2.5. But if you get a 120Hz TV, there is no need to create intermediate frames, because 120/24=5. So Blu-ray material can look sharper and more filmlike on a 120Hz TV than a 60Hz one.

With the increase in refresh rates, some TVs also incorporate motion processing. They are creating intermediate frames, not because they need to compensate for timing differences, but to create more fluid movement. They eliminate the cadence of 24 fps film and make movies look more like live video broadcasts. Technically the feature is independent of the refresh rate, but some manufacturers make it the default mode so that you have to look in the TV's menus to disable it.

3D material will also become available for home viewing, and refresh rates of 120Hz are considered the minimum to handle the display of stereo frame data.

It has red yellow and white plugs on one side like the ones from the dvd player that plug in the tv on one side and it has that big blue thing you have to screw into the tv on the other. will this work to connect my dvd player to a computer moniter to watch movies?

Answer
Nope. There are no simple cords that will allow you to connect a composite-RCA source to a computer monitor blue VGA port.

Those VGA-to-composite-RCA cords are intended for video cards with a specially-built VGA port that can also send out a composite signal.

It will NOT work if you try to use it in reverse to connect a composite source like your DVD player to a VGA monitor. You will get no image.

Why not just play DVDs on your computer? Most likely your computer already has a DVD drive built-in.

If I have to estimate my kids have at least 300 toys. They have big bulky toys and they have small toys and a bunch of toys in between. I plan to do a garage sale to get rid of some. Will having less toys get them to play with the ones they already have?

I admit we did by them a back yard swimming pool today. They have a computer in their room, and a portable dvd player. My kids get new toys on a regular basis and then our neighbors old toys.

How did you get your child to play with their toys? They are 4 and 2 years of age.

Answer
take 90% of them away and put them in the garage. they have far too many things, and are getting confused with all the choices, so thay choose nothing.

if they get bored with one toy remove it and replace it with another

Good luck

Can I bring my kid's gameboy & portable dvd player on a flight from the USA to Mexico?

dragonflyi

Are there any guidelines regarding bringing & using a gameboy & portable dvd player on a flight. Probably not using the dvd player just for transportation but definitely using the gameboy.

Thank you.

Answer
Yes but you can't use them on take-off and landing. Easier if you pack them before boarding and bring them out once in the air.

You didn't say the age of the child but make sure s/he is used to wearing the headphones and understands to keep them on for watching the movie. You might want to bring an extra set. Same goes with the gameboy. They make annoying noises so please make it clear to him or her that the sound is to be kept turned down while onboard. Special rule just for the flight!

Electronics can be lifesavers when flying with kids but please make sure they're juiced up and/or bring extra batteries. It's such a bummer for the kid when those gizmos run out and there's still a lot of the flight left. Usually you can't recharge them onboard.

As an extra tip, bring a brand new movie and/or new game and present them once you pull them out of the bag onboard.

For more tips on flying, I have a totally non-commercial article on the subject, originally written for an expat publication. Feel free to check it out.

Have a great flight!

How am I supposed to mount a DVD player to a TV mounted to the wall with an extending/rotating arm?

tenente

Arlight, my TV is mounted using a rotating (180 degrees)/extending arm. I have an oddly shaped house, and I've mounted my TV to one of the inside corners so I can see the TV from the kitchen, living room, and dining room. It works really well, but I have no idea how to attach a DVD player with the TV, so it rotates with the TV. Any ideas?

Answer
If it will mount on top of the tv, buy 2 inch velcro with adhesive tape on the bottom and use as much as possible.
The velcro has adhesive on the bottom of each piece and it will stick to the tv and dvd player but you can remove it also.
Just make sure you clean the tv and dvd good before you place the tape

Answer
Itâs a marvelous age we live in. Between youtube and itunes, photoshop and consumer grade editing software, the entire world of media is at our fingertips. You can bring up a video of just about anything you want at the click of a mouse, save it to your computer, and manipulate it to fit your purposes to your heartâs content. More than a few industry professionals have used youtube and windows movie maker as a powerful resource for making video presentations at meetings, and more than a few amateur filmmakers have found their calling making goofy internet videos to show their friends.

This is exactly why itâs so incredibly frustrating when we have to deal with something that doesnât seem to be working. You know, minor technical malfunctions and equipment problems that hinder progress when we have something important weâre trying to do. One of the chief frustrations in the world of modern media is connecting laptop to TV, or rather, trying to connect TV to laptop.

Using a laptop and a television, it should be easy to show your friendâs pictures and video youâve shot or make a video presentation at work, but thereâs so much to worry about. Screen resolution, compatibility, getting the right cables and so forth. Itâs kind of a headache, and you may feel like throwing in the towel and just telling your friends or co-workers âOkay, now squint=2 0really hard at the laptop monitor, you can kind of see what Iâm trying to show you here!â

With that in mind, there are a few different ways to connect laptop to TV, and weâll get into them right awayâ¦
How to Connect Laptop to TV: Cable Options

Unless youâre onto some new technology that we havenât heard about, connecting a laptop to a TV is going to be done using a cable. You should be able to find any of these at a nearby electronics or computer store, or even your local Wal Mart.
S-Video

S-Video is perhaps the most common method, thanks in part to the fact that an S-Video cable is incredibly cheap, and most TVs these days are equipped with an S-Video port. Before buying an S-Video cable, take a look at your computer and make sure itâs equipped with an S-Video port (it should be clearly labelled).

There are two different types of S-Video cable, four pin and seven pin. Check the TV and your laptop. If they both have the same number of pins, youâre good to go and the TV will display whatever is on your laptop monitor. However, if your laptop has seven pins and your TV has four, youâre going to have to look into other options.
VGA

VGA is probably your best bet if youâre working with an HDTV. VGA gives better image and sound quality, and VGA cables are also quite cheap. However, VGA ports arenât very common on regular television sets, so this option is only really available with HDTV.
DVI

Digital Visual Interface. DVI gives the best quality image and sound, but can be kind of expensive. A DVI cable may cost between forty and fifty bucks, most computers do not have a DVI port, and only HDTVâs have a DVI port.
HDMI

HDMI will give you, bar none, the best quality. HDMI ports are pretty rare on laptops, so youâll want a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
Troubleshooting

If youâve got the right cables hooked up, you should do just fine. If no image is going through, try some trial-and-error troubleshooting: Make sure youâre on the right channel for input from the laptop, double check the cables, etcetera.

If you canât seem to get the image to show (which is unlikely if youâve plugged the cable in correctly), the problem is probably in the cable. The most common problems people face with properly connected, working cables has to do with things like resolution and aspect ratio.

Keep in mind that, especially on an HDTV, your laptop image might look a bit pixelated, almost like youâre using a Nintendo instead of a high end laptop. No matter how high res your computer is, itâs not a big-screen TV, and most documents and media files intended for computer use wonât look as good on a big screen.

Of course, you can always adjust the screen resolution in your settings for a better image on the television, just⦠donât expect miracles. Thereâs going to be a bit of quality loss.

If youâre working with a widescreen television set, you may wind up with your image stretched out. No problem, just grab the remote and adjust the aspect ratio on the television itself until it looks good (4:3 is the most common aspect ratio for laptops).

Can you connect a computer to a dvd player then to a projector?

diana c

Well I have a problem with my hdmi connector in my projector, so my projector won't connect to my computer, and I check if the cable was the problem, but I am able to connect my computer to my TV with the hdmi cable, so it is not the cable. So I am wondering if I can connect my dvd player to my computer somehow, then connect my dvd player to my projector with an rca cable or some cable? Is this possible will it display?
-Thank You :)))
Well actually, the projector work with my computer before but now it just stop working it it? So I don't know what happen?

Answer
If I understand you correctly, I believe you are running into HDCP. HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is an anti-copying protocol implemented in HDMI (among others) that requires all devices connected to it to be HDCP-compliant. See here for more info than you wanted to know:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection

TVs with HDMI connections are HDCP compliant and so is your computer, but it seems your projector is not (probably a little older, no?). So even if you could run a DVD player into your computer (we'll get to that in a moment) you would still have the same problem. The problems are:
1. Your computer's HDMI is most likely Output only (there are some machines with HDMI input but they have HDCP issues also). So you can't connect the DVD player to it and see its output - unless you have a Video (and audio) capture card (if it's a desktop) or USB capture device (if a laptop, or a desktop).
2. I am confused why you would connect your DVD player to the computer AND to the projector (unless you mean connect the DVD to the computer and from the computer to the projector, which still wouldn't work, even with RCA connections - your computer doesn't have these anyway, does it?).
3. Your best bet, if it's what you want to do, is just connect the DVD player straight to the projector (if the DVD player has the Yellow/Re/White A/V connections).
Does this make sense? Write back with additional details if I have misunderstood or you have more Qs...

Anthony

I have a disc that I need to run after restarting my mac. How do I set it up to do this?
I'm talking about a CD DISC not a HD DSK. I want it to run the DISC when I restart it.

Answer
What does "a disc that I need to run" mean? You can run an application, but not a disc.

Do you refer to a CD that has one or more executable files ("executable file" means program / app / installer) on it? Those apps do not run until you decide to run them. OS X does not support general auto run of executable files because it is a serious security risk. Imagine that some prankster in your office burned a CD with a malwear installer that could launch at startup, and he put it in your computer's CD slot while your computer was off and you were getting coffee. Unless you put a locking cover over the CD slot, you could get duped into accidentally installing malwear on your system.

In System Preferences > CDs & DVDs, you can select to open iTunes or another app when you insert a music CD, open iPhoto or another app when you insert a picture CD, and to open DVD Player or another app when you insert a video DVD. You can also chose for the system to ignore these same types of discs.

If you have a particular disc with a particular executable ("runable") file on it that you would love to have launch without your going to all the trouble of clicking it, you can write a script that can accomplish this. You would need either to add a repeating poll event or add several seconds delay to the launch command to allow the disc to mount after login. Add the script to your account Login Items.

How much is the "DVD Player" application on the Mac?

James

Is it free? Or is there a price?

Answer
The DVD player app on the Mac is bundled with OS X and comes free with every new Mac. You cannot buy it separately.
