have dvd recorder/player in working order. If I record disc on this machine it plays fine.?

scramo

But if I try to play it on a second play only dvd I get an error message to effect "This disc may not play on this dvd. Eject disc".This dvd player works fine with other discs. What is wrong ?Is there any way I can adjust the 2nd machine ?

Answer
Some DVD recorders require that you 'finalise' the disc when all your recordings are finished. Also, not all DVD players/recorders will recognise the same type/manufacturer of DVD media.

DVD/VHS player?

i want a DVD/VHS player that will record my old VSH to DVD?
is there suck thing?

if so can you guys tell me some sites that sell them?

thanks

Answer
Hi jerryreed13,

You can buy a combination VHS/DVD recorder everywhere. WalMart carries several kinds. The simplest and best way is to simply get a DVD recorder. You can find them everywhere for less then $100. You will feed the output of your VHS player into the input of your DVD recorder to copy tapes.

If you are wanting to copy pre recorded tapes you will need to bypass the copy guard. It is legal as long as you are backing up your own tapes.

Then you will need a device like "Sima T120 GoDVD". It removes the copy guard and enhances the picture. You plug your source into it and plug it into the input of your recorder.

Here is an example of one - http://www.heartlandamerica.com/browse/item.asp?PIN=54817&

Another one that will work is the Digital Video Stabilizer. They work like a charm. Go here to read about and see an example - http://www.qualitekindustries.com/vidstab.html

Can I record from a dvd player to dvd recorder?

missymoome

I mean instead of recording just straight tv.

Answer
Assuming the tape/DVD that you're trying to copy is not copy protected or copyright material, yes you can. It is a very simple process of hooking up the outputs of the player to the inputs of the recorder. I would recommend that you use the SVHS video output (if there is one) and the two red/white audio outputs into their respective inputs. Put your source on to play, put the recorder on record. You may need to locate the "line in" for the recorder to see the video and audio signals you want to record.

I tape my daughters basketball games and burn them to DVD. Sometimes I need to make copies. It is an easy thing.

If you're trying to copy a commercial DVD, such as a movie, you will find this won't work. Thus the term "copy protected." There are methods, using a computer, that will overcome copy protection, but breaking any method of DRM (digital rights management) is illegal.

Good luck!

How to hook-up my DVD recorder/player to my stereo?

Bruce B

I recently upgraded my old Sony DVD recorder to a real nice Panasonic. Unfortunately, there are no open audio outputs to connect to the stereo. (My old Sony had two separate outputs). How can it be connected to the receiver?? Can the output signal be split?? Thanks!!

Answer
The DVD player should have a set of red & white audio ports. You can connect these to your stereo while connecting your choice of video cable(s) to the TV. You will only get audio from the stereo, not your TV.

The player also has multiple sets of outputs and sends its video and audio signals to all of them. So you could, for instance, have a HDMI cable to your HDTV for upscaled video, and an optical audio or digital audio cable to your receiver for surround sound (which is what I did.) Or any combination of cables going any which way to your heart's content.

If you really want stereo audio to both your TV and your receiver, you can just use a Y-cable, available at any Radio Shack. You'll need 1 Y-cable for each RCA audio port.

If you already have cable TV service and a HD-DVR, then the DVD-recorder with digital tuner will not be as useful to you. However, there are still a few things that you can do with a DVD recorder with a digital tuner .. I'll explain.

For the record, you would want a DVD recorder with a QAM tuner in addition to the ATSC. The QAM tuner will be able to tune into the digital channels that the cable company does not encrypt (i.e. in the clear).

If you have a HD-DVR from the cable company, they do not allow you to record VOD (Video On Demand) shows/movies to the DVR. So if you wanted to record some shows to play on another TV, you're out of luck ... well, not so if you also have a DVD recorder.

Here's something that not everyone knows. Most cable companies pass VOD unencrypted. So any device with a QAM tuner will be able to tune into VOD shows. It's pretty neat to be able to watch what your neighbors are watching, but you're at their disposal in terms of the FF/REW.

Let's say that you want to record a few episodes of SpongeBob off of the Free OnDemand "channel". What you can do is order it on the DVR. Tune into that channel on the DVD recorder (it might take a little searching). Then cue up the DVR and DVD recorder and record.

Now, is this "feature" worth the additional money to step up to the digital tuner model? Depends on you, I guess. Personally, I wouldn't buy any recording device that didn't have a digital tuner.

Is there anyway to force my DVD recorder to record copy written movies from my DVR?

Hicktown g

I have some movies for the kids on the DVR, and I wanted to be able to put them on a DVD so they can watch them in their room, but my Sony DVD player/recorder displays a message that the movie is copy written.

I've tried to hook the dvd player up a different way to the cable box, to route the signal, but then the dvd player won't get the digital tuner channels which I need.

Any ideas?

Answer
If your TV has outputs try hooking it up that way. The only way I could think of is to hook it up sat out to dvd in. And then dvd out to TV in, but you may have tried that.

Can I buy a DVD recorder/player to work with my computer?

Hermione G

My computer came with a CD player in it but no DVD player/recorder. I bought the computer in 2000 and it is a Gateway. Will I be able to buy a separate DVD recorder/player to use with my computer? Will I be able to plug it in somewhere on my computer and use it?
Thanks.
Why is it called a "re-writer". I would think it would be called a recorder.

Answer
hi, yep, just buy a DVD re-writer drive - very cheap these days, take the CD drive out and put it in its place. 2000 you will probably need a IDE one.

windows should do the rest on startup.
