My house was broken in to and many of my things were taken. My parents had a few items in storage and said i could have everything. The tv has connection for cable but no input/output for a dvd player. The tv was purchased in 2001 before it was standard to have input out put for dvd. Or can i connect it through a vcr? Can someone help me?

Answer
Older TV sets usually don't have the audio/video hookups needed to run DVD players on. I had a Zenith 25 inch TV that was the same as yours. If you want to watch DVD's on an older TV, you will need to get what's called an RF Modulator. You can find these at electronic stores, such as Radio Shack, or stores like Wal-Mart and Target. They cost from $20-$30 dollars, but will provide you the audio/video hookups needed to run your DVD player through your existing TV set. Don't run the DVD player through your VCR, as DVD's have what's called Macrovision to keep people from making copies of DVD's. The DVD will not play right if you do this. Get the RF Modulator, and you'll be o.k.
(BTW, if you need an RF Modulator, I have one I can send you if interested).

How can I see the closed captions when watching a dvd ?

Suz

I have several dvd's that have closed captions but not subtitles. I have tried viewing these captions using several different dvd players/tv sets. I have no trouble viewing the captions when watching a tv program, but cannot get them when watching the dvd. I am hard of hearing and need those captions! What can I do differently?
The dvd is clearly marked "cc" for closed captions.

Answer
Does the DVD include the closed captions? Unless it has that symbol, it may not. Surprising as it may seem, there's no law that says that DVDs need to be encoded and a non-trivial number of major titles do not contain the captions. More minor titles, as well.

That said, if the symbol is on the box, it should work. I cannot think of a reason that a TV that otherwise displays the closed captions would not for a DVD.

I already have a Netflix account and my samsung dvd player is connected to the internet. But Netflix doesn't appear on the samsung apps for me to download.. help.

You might try updating the firmware on your Samsung player to see if the Netflix app shows up. But if not - your player does not support Netflix.

Try the Western Digital TV Live box. It has 25 apps and the support is much better than bluRay based apps.

how do you play a dvd on a macbook?

Nyx

i've just got a new one, and when i put the dvd in the slot, the icon of it appears in the desktop, but nothing else happens. when i dubble click on the icon, it opens with loads of files that the computer says it cant play. ive also tried dragging the icon into dvd player app. but nothing happens. help!

Answer
Your MacBook can play video DVDs but it can't play Windows games DVDs. If you have a DVD that is a movie, TV show etc., just insert it. If the DVD player doesn't automatically open, go to the DVD player and open it. Then go to "file" in the menu, and select "open DVD media". If it doesn't work, then something is wrong with the DVD.

DVD players scan discs with red lasers and Blu-Ray players scan discs with blue lasers. I'm not joking about the laser part. That's how it really works!

Answer
For one thing any disc you buy in the future will be a blu-ray disc and will not work in a regular dvd player. What you should buy is a player that states on the box that it will work with all existing disc formats. They will come out with something else that makes all that garbage in a couple of years anyway.

I have a Sony Bravia TV that does not have the built-in wireless function. However, the Sony 3D DVD player that I own does have the wireless function.

My question is before I spend $80 for the Sony Bravia wireless TV USB adapter that has terrible reviews, is there a way to connect the DVD player with the TV somehow so the TV can get the internet from the DVD player?

Thanks,

PS- Please don't say sorry we can answer any questions unless we have every little peace of information about the TV and the DVD player.

Just a simple yes or no will suffice.

Answer
"wireless" refers to a network connection. You still need use a HDMI cable to physically connect the player to the TV.

You can then configure your player to connect to your home's wireless (also called "wifi") network so it you can use its network applications like Facebook, or Netflix or whatever else it has installed.

While they do make "smart TVs" that have these same network features, you do not need both your TV and player to have them. Just one or the other. In your case the player will access the internet and display the contents on your TV.

What file extensions play on an Old Regular DVD Player?

A

Hi.
I have an old Sony DVD Player, and want to play a DVD on it. My file is .AVI. What file extension should I convert it to in order to play it?

Thanks.

Answer
Video conversion is fairly simple...

DVD players generally use a standard file type called VOB which is
found in a folder called Video_TS on most all Movie DVD's

The best programs I know of that can convert an AVI to the correct format are:

WinAVI
ConvertX to DVD
and Nero burning applications

If you have an application like NERO or Roxio, they can usually convert an AVI
directly to a DVD in the proper formats.

Hope this helps

Are there any alternative programs I can download for free to watch Bluray movies on Windows 7?

How to burn a movie I just downloaded from my laptop onto a DVD?

Fly Far Fa

I just downloaded and instructional video off Vuze & I really want to burn it onto a DVD, but how do i do that?? I have a new HP computer & its windows 7 & has a burner if that helps. Thanks :)

Answer
Hello, if you just wanna directly burn the downloaded movie/video onto a DVD as a data DVD, you can use RZ Free DVD Burner, it's free and easy to use, it can directly burn any files or folders to any dvd disc as data dvd, such as directly burn downloaded movie/video onto a DVD as a data dvd, you can open the burned data dvd on your computer, but can't play on regular dvd players.

Or if you want to play the burned DVD well on regular dvd players, you'd better use a right software to convert the downloaded movie/video to video dvd format then burn onto a DVD, because regular dvd players only recognize video dvd format well, you can follow me to use RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any formats movies or videos to video dvd format and burn to any dvd disc(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL,etc), easy to use, insert a DVD disc into your laptop/computer dvd burner drive, run RZ DVD Creator, select the dvd burner drive as the target folder, drag and drop the downloaded movie/video into the software, then press the START button, you will get a right video dvd, and you can play the burned video dvd well on any dvd players.

You can yahoo or google search and download them, both easy to use and work well with Windows 7, hope them could help you.

Can you connect a computer to a dvd player then to a projector?

diana c

Well I have a problem with my hdmi connector in my projector, so my projector won't connect to my computer, and I check if the cable was the problem, but I am able to connect my computer to my TV with the hdmi cable, so it is not the cable. So I am wondering if I can connect my dvd player to my computer somehow, then connect my dvd player to my projector with an rca cable or some cable? Is this possible will it display?
-Thank You :)))
Well actually, the projector work with my computer before but now it just stop working it it? So I don't know what happen?

Answer
If I understand you correctly, I believe you are running into HDCP. HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) is an anti-copying protocol implemented in HDMI (among others) that requires all devices connected to it to be HDCP-compliant. See here for more info than you wanted to know:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection

TVs with HDMI connections are HDCP compliant and so is your computer, but it seems your projector is not (probably a little older, no?). So even if you could run a DVD player into your computer (we'll get to that in a moment) you would still have the same problem. The problems are:
1. Your computer's HDMI is most likely Output only (there are some machines with HDMI input but they have HDCP issues also). So you can't connect the DVD player to it and see its output - unless you have a Video (and audio) capture card (if it's a desktop) or USB capture device (if a laptop, or a desktop).
2. I am confused why you would connect your DVD player to the computer AND to the projector (unless you mean connect the DVD to the computer and from the computer to the projector, which still wouldn't work, even with RCA connections - your computer doesn't have these anyway, does it?).
3. Your best bet, if it's what you want to do, is just connect the DVD player straight to the projector (if the DVD player has the Yellow/Re/White A/V connections).
Does this make sense? Write back with additional details if I have misunderstood or you have more Qs...

If I have cabinets and countertop on 2 walls, a refrigerator, dishwasher, disposal, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, coffee maker, blender, mixer, vent fan, can opener, crock pot, tv/dvd player and food dehydrator, how many cuircuits am I gonna have and am I gonna have to get a bigger breaker box for all this? Dont forget the ceiling lights, under counter lights and floor accent lights!!!
I just bought this house and want to re-wire the kitchen correctly

Answer
For a renovation of this sort you need to have a permit as you will be doing the entire kitchen and will need to bring it up to code for your state. I'm in Connecticut, and that would mean the 2005 code, but CT. is one of only 4 states using the 2005 code. Your state will likely be using the 2008 code, or if you are in Mass. it will be the 2011 code. At any rate, you will need a separate circuit for the refrigerator, another TWO GFIC circuits for the counter top devices, another for the dishwasher, a 240v circuit for the stove/oven (if you have that), and *possibly* more for lighting. You mentioned quite a few items that draw considerable power, so depending on how you use them (do you entertain a lot?) you may need yet another circuit. Your best bet is to get a couple of quotes from licensed electrical contractors, and list everything you need just as you did here. Also show them the panel so they can determine if you have room for the circuits they will need and the power they will draw. Quotes are *usually* free, and that will give you the best idea of what you will need. They will be able to actually see what you have now, and with the list of items you intend to use, and how you intend to use them, will be able to give you the right numbers, both for number of circuits and for cost.

Why was the DVD box set of the Earthworm Jim cartoon only released in Australia?

NauseousPe

That show was one of the most clever cartoons I've ever seen, but living in the US, my only option is to watch them on YouTube with the video squished to the top of the screen and NBC removing them one by one.
Does anyone have any idea why the DVD was only released in Australia, and if there's any chance that it could see a region 1 release?

Answer
The reason why the complete series is only released in Australia is because Vision Entertainment who released the complete series as a 5-disc set in Australia are a based DVD label taking premium DVD and video content to major retailers Australia and New Zealand wide. Other publishers such as Universal currently have no plans to release the show on DVD in the US although there is a chance seeing as how the TV series was released on June 1, 2011 for Australia and there is quite a demand for this series to be released for other regions seeing how the fan-base is quite large.

My advice to you if you no longer want to wait for the DVD's to release in your region would be to get a region free DVD player and buy the box set through an internet retailer such as Amazon.

I would be adding MS Office to it, but other than that I would only be using Firefox, iTunes, and a DVD-player software.
I guess I'm asking if it would run fast or would it be sluggish? Like, is 1 GB the minimum or is it sufficiently enough?

for win 7 starter yes, but you are at the bare minimum so watch out if you are going to do some resource incentive stuff. Then again you aren't supposed to do much besides surf the web on a netbook.

Do I need to get a DVD/VCR player with a digital tuner?

weakestlin

I have a cable TV coax cable that connects directly to the TV without going through any "boxes". Someone told me that if I wanted to get a DVD/VCR recorder & player, I would probably need one with an internal tuner. Is this correct? What is the function of a tuner?

Answer
That depends on several things. The first being do you wish to record shows off of the cable? If yes, then yes you will PROBABLY need a DVD/VCR combo machine with a tuner. Second are getting basic cable(typically analog) or full digital service? That will determine what type of tuner will be required. Third what type of connections are available on your TV? Just coaxial cable(where your cable is connected now), composite video(yellow, red, white connections), component(red, green, blue, and red, white connections) or HDMI(kind of looks like a USB jack but longer). If only coaxial cable then yes again on the tuner or you will need a splitter. If any of the rest then no tuner required unless you want to record shows off the cable. Feel free to email me if you have questions.

best 3d dvd player review image

Critter122

on January 11th, i am planning on getting Piranha 3D, but after the terrible 3d quality of My Bloody Valentine 3D, i was considering a blu ray player.
1. if i don't have a 3d tv, can i still get a 3d blu ray player to make the 3d look better than regular dvd?
2. if i just get a regular blu ray player, will the 3d still be a lot better than regular dvd 3d?
3. is blu ray worth it?

Answer
"1. if i don't have a 3d tv, can i still get a 3d blu ray player to make the 3d look better than regular dvd?"

No. A 2D TV is only capable of displaying older, anaglyph 3D, which uses color tinted cardboard glasses and is available on both DVD and Blu-ray.

If you want to see the true stereoscopic 3D effect that some movies on Blu-ray use (called 3D Blu-ray), then you need a 3D TV, 3D Blu-ray player, and electronically shuttered 3D eyeglasses.

You should know that "My Bloody Valentine" was released in two forms of 3D, anaglyph (DVD and Blu-ray) and stereoscopic (3D Blu-ray). The stereoscopic version that was recently released will have a better 3D effect (when viewed on a true 3D system) than the anaglyph version , but was still poorly reviewed when compared to other 3D Blu-ray titles: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/My-Bloody-Valentine-3D-Blu-ray/16128/#Review .

"2. if i just get a regular blu ray player, will the 3d still be a lot better than regular dvd 3d?"

Not really, the picture may look a little sharper, but that's about it.

"3. is blu ray worth it?"

It is if you have an HDTV that is 42" or larger.

What should i buy first? A new 42' LED Vizio 3d tv or a new soundbar such as the sony htct260?

Taylor

I'm tight with money right now and I am going to buy one or the other, I've never had a Soundbar before but neither have I had a 3d TV, what should I get first?!

Answer
First off you will need a tv and then a sound bar. I would not waste my money on a 3D technology that is not supported by software. Keep in mind, to watch in 3D you will need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray disc movie (at this time there are only 180 titles available in 3D and they are mainly animated movies from Disney) and 3D glasses for each person. The price is higher for any 3D product. Vizio is a bargain price tv that is not very good in quality or reliability. Sony is not know for making very good sound system and the quality and reliability have dropped over the years. I never had any Sony product that have lasted over 3 years. The first DVD player model 7000 and 7700 the following year and paid over $1,100 each. The first HDTV by Sony and paid $6,400. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on all products for a home theater. If you read yahoo questions all the time, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Hope this will help you out.
