Ok i have a lot of cd-r's and I want to be able to burn movies or my video clips onto them. What format should the file be to be able to play the disk in a normal dvd player. BTW i know about the divx and xvid way. But I want to be able to play the disk's in my other dvd player that doesn't support DIVX. What software do I need to convert the videos to the appropriate file extension and program to actually burn the disk?

It depends on how they are burnt, and what type of player.

If they are just burnt as Avis or Mpgs or DivX, then most DVD players will NOT recognized them.

If they are burnt as a VOB movie file, that is a movie file converted to DVD format and then burnt, then most DVD players will recognize them.

Search for a program called ConvertXtoDVD. It will help.

I believe copying store-bought Macrovision protected VHS tapes will not be possible without a Macrovision removing device between the VCR and DVD recorder. This would rule out a combo unit for your purposes. I know I needed one of these devices just to copy a protected VHS to VHS with the later VCRs that came out. Also needed one to dub protected VHS to the ATI capture card on my computer for creating DVDs. I know a DVD player / VCR combo unit will not allow you to copy protected DVDs to VHS. Though I don't do much VHS to VHS or VHS to DVD dubbing these days...

The quality you end up with will not be great. Not worthy of the newest TVs coming out. Always some loss recording from an analog source... The resolution of VHS is not great to begin with... Not really worth the trouble...

What I've done is join Blockbuster Online where your rent 3 movies at a time through the mail for $17.99 a month flat rate. You can get 20 movies a month easily if you send them back quickly. Rent the movies you own on VHS and copy the DVDs on the computer. Much quicker and easier than dubbing VHS real-time to a DVD recorder. MUCH better results. Dolby Digital sound. Often no compression needed if only transferring the main movie files (no menus, ads, etc...). The resulting DVD-R will look far better than VHS even if compressed to 50%.

When I put in a dvd it plays on the t.v. and I have sound out coming out of the speakers, but when I play a vhs I don't. The movie plays on the t.v. but I don't have sound coming from the speakers. Are you using the optical or coax connector for SPDIF digital audio? That will not work for VHS. You'll have to connect to analog outputs.

I'm about to go on a road trip with three year old and can't find the charger for his portable DVD player. I found a couple of different chargers that do fit in the device (I haven't tried them plugged in) for example the Swiffer sweeper-vac and his baby monitors. I don't know much about electronics and I don't know if it will ruin it being charged by a charger that isn't FOR it?

5 hours!?! Wow, and I thought 2 1/2 was bad! We recently learned that our 2 year old LOVES to watch movies on our lap-top. I think a portable DVD player would be perfect! Also take some coloring books and crayons and a small set of "Lego's". Be sure to take some books to read to him!

PS3 plays Blu-Ray discs which are high definition DVD's but are not HD-DVD. The PS3 also costs $600 but it is the cheapest high definition recorded media player out there as Sony eats over $200 of the cost of the product from every sale. With that in mind, you are NOT going to find one for anywhere near $150 for a couple years. It's best to wait anyway until a dual compatibility player that plays both HD-DVD and BluRay comes out. In the mean time, you're going to have to stick with your progressive scan DVD player.

Another idea, why not subscribe to DirecTV HD or similar? I know DirecTV is offering their HD receiver for free at the moment. Instead of renting movies, you can order PPV and you can get them in HD quality. I know it's not the same but for your price bracket it would do until HD-DVD players come down in price.

Probably yes. Most DVD players have universal switch mode PSUs, which can readliy work at as low as 100V.

You need to make sure your display can show PAL/576 I/P though.

I have some movies for the kids on the DVR, and I wanted to be able to put them on a DVD so they can watch them in their room, but my Sony DVD player/recorder displays a message that the movie is copy written.

I've tried to hook the dvd player up a different way to the cable box, to route the signal, but then the dvd player won't get the digital tuner channels which I need.

Any ideas?

If your TV has outputs try hooking it up that way. The only way I could think of is to hook it up sat out to dvd in. And then dvd out to TV in, but you may have tried that.

hi, yep, just buy a DVD re-writer drive - very cheap these days, take the CD drive out and put it in its place. 2000 you will probably need a IDE one.

I suspect you are going to have to do two things:

- Make sure the latest drivers for the DVD player are installed on your system. Check the manufacturer's web site.

You may not be able to find a cheaper gadget than the kindle fire which has the 7" of screen. The iPod has 4.3" while the 3Ds has the 3.53 and 3' of screens. You might try updating the firmware on your Samsung player to see if the Netflix app shows up. But if not - your player does not support Netflix.

Try the Western Digital TV Live box. It has 25 apps and the support is much better than bluRay based apps.

Q. I have the cable box run to the tv and can turn it on with no problem. I have the dvd player with all the right connections run to the cable box. I got my comcast remote to turn on the dvd player (as the aux option). But I don't know what button I'm suppossed to be hittting to change from watching the cable to watching a dvd. The Motorola DVR from Comcast has all it's input connections turned off, those are open for the consumers in other countries who have to buy there DVR ( i.e. Canada) The only connections are available are the Composite out put (RGB) RCA, and the RF out, the eaithernet , USB, and Firewire ports are closed, (but there are some who have the Firewire ports open if you have the right drivers for your computer.

The USB ports do have power so you can have a usb light or USB fan (the motorola boxes get really really hot)

The best bet would to go wal-mart or another electronics store and get a system selector they are about 20-50 bucks and allow you to hook up to 8 devices to one RCA input

Your recorder used a format the computer doesn't recognize. You need to check the manufacturer's site to find out what format was used and then find a matching plug in for your computer.

Another option: If you have video/audio out (for connecting the recorder to a TV) and video/audio in on your computer, you may be able to play it from the recorder into your computer just like using an external CD/DVD drive.

I know this can be done on Macs, (I've done it many times with DVDs and VCR tapes) but you'll need a PC person to talk you through the set up on a PC.

Hi, i have a PS2 slim and an LG portable DVD player. I do not have a TV in my room and i was just wondering is I can hook my PS2 with my dvd player so i can play it on the DVD player. My portable dvd player has : 1 hole that says AV OUT and another that says DC 12V IN. Apart from that i have these two holes to put earphones in and this usb connected thingie. From the sounds of the ports you have on your DVD player you will not be able to hook your Ps2 up to it... Unless it has an AV IN you will not be able to do it. Let me explain what you have... You have an AV OUT which lets you hook the DVD player to a larger television... you have a DC 12V IN which is a power port so you can plug it into a wall. DC meaning direct current, 12V meaning 12 Volts, and IN meaning In. Head phone jack will do you no good. I'm not sure about the USB but I have never heard of hooking it audio/video equipment via USB port.

i am moving from canada to italy for i don't know how long. i have an american player that won't play italian dvds and i buy an italin player, i would have to buy italin dvds and i dont want to spend the $$ to rebuild my collection from scratch.

so i am going to bring my portable dvd player but have like 100 dvds. i am not getting them shipped to me so my options are either, bring all 100 dvds in a cd wallet, without the cases (leaving the empty cases in canada maybe forever) or just bring my fave 20 or so, cases and all.

go here and investigate burning tools at cnet.com. The link is to the dvd software download page. Most of them will have trials then you'll have to buy but there may be a few free ones on the list. If you do a lot of internet downloading of video files etc... try Plato it works great. You can convert almost any video file from the internet into dvd quality... even streaming video... it's pretty amazing.

AVI is for audio and video, as you already know it but you're getting confused with wmA (AUDIO) and wmV (VIDEO).

WMA is just like mp3 promoted by microsoft for compressed audio format.

Now to your problem to watch DIVX movies on DVD player. Your player muct be DIVX compatible to play divx and phillips does make those. You need to check the manual or online for compatibility.

If it's not compatible, dont worry. Let me give you the simplest possible solution. You need to convert DIVX movies into DVD Video format and burn it in VR mode - sounds complex don worry - read on.

Windows XP media center can burn DVDs for you but it does not come with DIVX codecs to read divx movies required for conversion. Download FREE codecs from divx.com, start windows media center, goto video, add dovx video, burn. Inset into you phillips player and ENJOY!!!

Last piece of advice: make sure you check the compatibility of DVDR format of your phillips DVD player. There are still some boxes which support only one format DVD+R or DVD-R and use the same as required by your DVD player.
