Just wondering why the blu-ray disk didnt work in my dvd player?

Answer
Blu-ray doesn't work in a regular (old) DVD player because the information on the disk must be read by a new type of laser. I haven't done side-by-side tests, but a DVD is pretty sharp to me and I see no reason to spend hundreds of dollars on a new TV (which you need to see the effect of blu-ray) and a new DVD player. The DVD companies are just trying to sell more stuff; a regular DVD is just fine (and cheaper).

Can you connect a blu-ray player to a dvd player to use surround sound system?

Hi! A few years ago we bought a surround system that includes a dvd player. I want to buy my husband a blu-ray player for Christmas, but can we hook that up to our old dvd player to still use the surrround sound? I hope this makes sense... :)

Thanks!

Answer
Connect optical cable from Blu-ray player to system for surround sound if your system has one.
