will tv work on USA portable dvd player in UK?

tech

i have a portable dvd player with a TV tuner that i bought in the USA i was wondering if i could watch TV in the UK with it.

Answer
In a word: no.

There are too many things that could've create anamoly on-screen, disregard the Region Code gaffe about DVDs I am talking about TV; tuner for one, is it tuned to go to British channels? This is probably OK since I have a Taiwanese tuner working wonderfully in Canada.

But next part is not OK, European TV signals use PAL but Taiwan/Japan/US/Canada use NTSC, even if you can hook them all up there would be picture anamoly as PAL signal going into a NTSC box the phase is all wrong. I am not aware of any PAL-NTSC phase shifter adapters.

Help please, what is divx playback on portable DVD players?

How do I convert and burn a video to a DVD so that I can play it in DVD players?

Yahoo User

I would want to burn movies I have in my computer (mostly AVI files) in an empty DVD so that I can watch it in my car's DVD player. What do I have to do so that any DVD player can play the video I burned to the DVD? Do I have to convert the AVI video to some other format first? How do I burn it to the empty DVD afterwards? If possible, I would want a program which can convert/burn without leaving a watermark. Thanks for the help. Sorry if my question is kind of long, I'm not very good with technology.

Answer
Most dvd players only recognize standard video DVD well, so if you want to watch the burned dvd on your car's or home DVD players, you need to use a right software to convert and burn your movies to standard video DVD that can be watched well on dvd players, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any movies to standard video DVD and burn to any dvd disc (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc.), such as convert and burn any avi files to standard video DVD, easy to use, just run RZ DVD Creator, insert a dvd disc into your computer dvd burner drive, directly drag and drop your avi files into the software, then press "START" button, then you will get a good standard video DVD from your movies, and you can watch the burned standard video dvd on yoru car's and home dvd players well. You can yahoo or google search and download RZ DVD Creator, hope it can help you.

How To Burn a VIDEO_TS Folder To DVD For It To Play On DVD Players?

I have a movie on my hard drive, which is a 7gb file. It is contained in a VIDEO_TS folder in several different files of VOB and others. I've burnt it to an 8.5gb DVD and it works on my laptop, but not in my Xbox 360 or other DVD players. How can I do this so it will play in other DVD players, I have plenty of discs and am willing to download software. All help is much appreciated.

Answer
Most dvd players only recognize standard video DVD well which include VOB, IFO and BUP files, and all files be placed in a VIDEO_TS folder, so you can directly burn the VIDEO_TS folder to your DVD disc as a standard video DVD, and you should note once burn complete, your burner software must close the dvd disc, can't use incremental burn mode. There is an easy way can help you, you can try RZ Free DVD Burner, it's free, it can directly burn hard drive video DVD folder(VIDEO_TS) to any DVD disc that can play well on DVD player, easy run rz free dvd burner then select "Burn video" to burn. rooroo109

i have a vid conveter i can use i had a bruce lee movie that was in a AVI-divx format which i burned striaght to dvd with np and it played ! i was stunned i couldnt believe it i have been making coasters for a while now trying to figure it out lol being new to it all but my question is since finding xvid files are way more common to download with more seeders out there but once i DL the avi-xvid file to my computer im guessing i need to convert it to to divx ? the thing is when i chose the TO AVI option the first settings are (divx-xvid ) compatable is what it says . does that mean that the file will playable by my dvd player which plays avi-divx so will it play xivd too? or once i convert it to that do i need to take it another step further and again convert to (TO DVD) ? this is confusing at the least . the last time i asked this type of question i only got try this convert try that converter well they are pretty much the same and the queston would still remain so can any one please tackle this W/O suggesting a new converter please FYI. i am using AVS converter on a XP pro os thank you for your time.

Answer
no, divx and xvid are different video codec, your DVD player can play avi videos with divx encoder, but cann't play avi videos with xvid encoder, i think the better choice is make the standard video DVD from the movies, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it is a software, i have used it, it can create standard video DVD, it can directly convert and burn any videos to DVD(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-DL, DVD+DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, xvid to DVD, divx to DVD, etc. Offer the better quality.

Work well on my computer, i like it, and i believe that once you try it, you will like it too.

Why are the TOSHIBA HD players so differently priced ranging from 250$ to 750$?

totalrecal

Toshiba uses Blue Laser and HD VMD uses Red Laser in their HD Players. Does this make a difference for he consumer? If HD VMD sells for 250$ and offers 1080p resolution is it not good enough? Does Toshiba offer anything more than HD VMD?

Answer
Toshiba currently has 3 players ranging a street price of about $200 to $750 US. The lowest priced (HD-A2) is adequate for most people and is sold at a 'bargain" price to promote sales to the average consumer. The middle model (HD-A20, $100 more than the HD-A2) has 1080p output rather than 1080i, but is otherwise the same. The highest priced model (HD-X2) offers a better (and more expensive) scaling chip and 1080p output.

Frankly, the HD-X2 is way overpriced (and Toshiba has apparently recognized this because the 3rd generation model that will replace it (HD-A35) has a MSRP of $499 US.

The replacement for the HD-A2 (HD-A3) at $299 and for the HD-A20 (the HD-A30) at $399 show a more logical and defensible price scale.

In addition the upper level 3rd generation models will handle HDMI 1.3 and output 1080p/24 fps ... desirable features, but unfortunately ones few consumers have equipment to exploit.

Bottom line is for the average consumer there is no reason to buy the higher priced models, and frankly the current price differential is only to take advantage of the early adopter that cares more about having the latest and "best" more than the cost.

VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disk) is an attempt first introduced in China and India now being tried in Europe to provide an alternative to HD DVD (and Blu-Ray). It has some good points but has no support from major Western movie studios (so far limited to Bollywood and a few European houses). So, HD DVD offers HD versions of some major films while Blu-Ray offers others ... so if these are your interest VMD is not very useful. If you are interested in HD versions of films supported on VMD it may be a viable option.

Frankly, I find normal DVDs on a good upscaling Player give a pretty darn good picture (and I have an HD player too) and the DVDs are available much cheaper and for a much wider choice of films.

The future of blue laser disks (and VMD) is very much up in the air. Unless the format war ends it is likely some other format / mechanism (e.g. online movies) will be the successor to DVD ... not either HD DVD or Blu-Ray (or VMD).

The three links provide info on the above. Hope this helps.

Is the Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player REALLY worth the extra money?

Ken C

Is the Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player REALLY worth the extra $200 over an upconverting player when being used with a 42 inch plasma (Samsung native 790p)?

Is the quailty visually better when comparing two identical DVD's on the same TV?

I can return my Samsung 1080P DVD until today ($90) if I want to but I'm not sure if the extra money is well spend after I've already droped $1,100.00 on the TV, $80.00 on the HDMI cable, and $90.00 on the clean power strip.

Thanks guys!

Answer
I think it's worth it. A true HD DVD movie is really nice, and the HD-A2 is a good upscaler as well. Plus you get a next generation player with all the benefits you're looking for now. Amazon had teh HD-A2 for under $240 recently, so if you look around, you can usually find a decent deal on the Toshibas (also try costco)

Buying a portable dvd player?

poodle

I want to buy one as a present for my husband for when he flys on business (which is often) but I don't want to spend loads on it at all. What is a good deal and what do I need to look for in a portable dvd player? What features should it have and what size should it be etc.

Answer
When shopping for a portable DVD player, keep in mind how you will be using the device. For example, if you plan to use a portable solely in the car to keep the kids occupied on long road trips, then the screen size and the inclusion of an AC adapter, which will allow you to power the player via your vehicle's power outlet, are more important than the unit's weight or the life expectancy of the battery. Conversely, if you are buying a portable DVD player to take with you on long flights, look for a lightweight model with plenty of battery life. If you usually travel with a spouse or colleague, or if you have two kids, opt for a model with dual headphone jacks and a larger screen size so two people can comfortably enjoy a movie while sitting next to each other.

in dash dvd player install just like a cd player?

KEVIN L

yes if was was wanting to replace my pioneer after market cp player to a in dash flip screen dvd touch screen is there anything extra that i need that i dont already have i would keep the same wire harnest? can someone just expain if its the same setup as a cd player thanks alot kevin
and i have a 2ch amp and a 4ch amp do most dvd players have enough outputs thanks

Answer
You will need to cut off the Pioneer harness from the vehicle specific harness (you will understand once you pull out the radio) and then connect the new DVD players wires to the vehicle specific harness. Follow the color codes and match the wires up.

Everything is exactly the same with one minor add on for the DVD player - It most likely has a wire that is meant to connect to the parking brake wire.

This wire is designed to prevent you from watching the DVD player while the vehicle is in motion.

I recommend you do not watch things while driving because it is dangerous and illegal in most states.

But if you really want to do it, just connect that parking brake wire to the ground wire (Black) and it should work fine moving or not.

Brad

in dash dvd player help?

Q. i bought a in dash dvd player for my 07 accord and i hooked it all up fine except for one thing the parking brake wire. im not sure what wire to hook it up to on the car can any one help?
yea i know some of the new players have that but i dont really care if it doesnt work while i drive because im not gona be watching it while i drive i just cant find the parking brake wire

Answer
if it is jensen this will work. The code is a permanent way of disabling the brake override on the jensen units.

There are two ways of doing this:

Insert the DVD

After the disc loads and plays you will see a blue screen telling you "it is unlawful to drive with a movie blah blah blah"

1)Activate the brake sequence and disable the blue screen using the hand brake, the switch method or anything else to give the unit its three pulses to disable that freakin blue screen.

(What I did was I installed my radio entirely, then took the pink wire and touched for two seconds, removed for two seconds and then touched and held the negative pole of a mower battery laying on my passenger seat until the screen was no longer blue.)

2) Next, on the main remote press stop twice, then 1, 2, 6, 4.

You will now see a hidden menu that says:

Region Code
Brake Override (I know you're drooling by now)
Macrovision (Watch all the burned and pirated movies you want if this option is off)
Loader Version
Model Version

3) Using the right joystick on the unit, navigate to the options of your choice, click on them to toggle on, off or which region code you want.

This is what you want:

Region Code: 1
Brake Override ON
Macrovision: OFF

When your done, click SYS SETUP on the main remote TWICE to save the settings and bingo, your done!!! Hooray!!! You can now kill your whole family in the car while watching that adult movie while your driving.....

The other way of doing this is by not engaging the parking brake sequence, thus you're inputting the code blindly.

1) Insert the DVD and you'll get the blue screen.

(If you have more than one tv, the unit itself will have the blue screen but the additional tv's you have plugged in will NOT, they will show the dvd menu. Thus you will be able to see the hidden menu on the additional screens after inputting the code, but not on the main unit because of its blue screen.)

2) On the main remote, push stop twice and then 1, 2, 6, 4

3) Push the joystick on the unit SOUTH twice and then click it once.

4) Press SYS SETUP on the main remote twice to save your settings.

It may take a few tries but you'll get it. This method can be done if you don't want to bother temporarily activating the brake sequence, but if you only have the unit and no additional tv's, its #$%^&* damn hardbecause you can't see the settings your changing.

I tried to make this as clear as possible. If you have questions, private message me or post here.

This code DOES work.

Best of Luck!

I have a Windows Movie Maker Project on Windows 8. How do I burn a CD/DVD to watch on my DVD player.?

Q. I want to be able to put the project onto a CD for DVD viewing.
I wonder can it be put on a thumb drive to hook right into the TV.
These are two seperate requests. Please advise and you will make my GrandDaughters day.

Answer
Before you do anything, save the project and then, on the right side of the Home tab, click "Save Movie". No device will play a Movie Maker project. In the "Common Settings" section of the Save Movie dropdown, I have "Burn DVD" but I'm on a Windows 7 machine that has Windows DVD Maker. I don't know if you'll also have this setting in Windows 8.

Unfortunately, Microsoft dropped Windows DVD Maker from Windows 8 so you have to use 3rd party DVD authoring software. Lesson: DVD or image burning software just burns copies of files onto disks. DVD authoring software adds the encoding that allows a disk to play in a DVD player.

About the easiest free DVD authoring program I'm familiar with is DVDFlick.
http://www.dvdflick.net/
Be forewarned that free DVD authoring software has a reputation for being buggy. I've used DVDFlick and DVDStyler (a little more complicated than DVDFlick) with no problems but others have reported them.

Re copying your video onto a flashdrive. I've seen some TVs that will recognize and allow you to open image and video files and run them - mostly newer TVs. I've seen some TVs that won't. You'd have to try it. I'm guessing that if the TV has USB, it's probably able to open and run files.

Windows 8 Customization?

Q. I just got the Lenovo Yoga Ideapad and was wondering if the start menu is customizable. I would like to add a photo for the background or just a different design. Also, I see that when watching a movie, it makes me watch it in media center NOT windows media player (i dont like it.)

thanks!

Answer
The start screen has a number of backgrounds to choose from but you can't add your own by default.

Thankfully someone has stepped up to the challenge and created a program to do the job.

http://www.ghacks.net/2012/10/21/customize-the-windows-8-start-screen-background/

Windows 8 doesn't have movie DVD playback by default. You can buy a separate DVD playback program or you can download VLC. I suggest VLC, it's free.

So like, I'm "borrowing" my brother's new fancy Windows 8 laptop to watch my Bourne movies that I just bought a;lsdfj;alsdjfasf and I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO LIKE WATCH IT. On my old laptop (Windows 7) all I had to do was pop a DVD in, the Media Player screen showed up, and the movie started playing like automatically. So how can I watch a DVD???????? And I really don't want to like download any special app because it will take forever and yeah.

UHHHHH, EXCUUUUUUUUUUSE ME MR. BC DUDE GUY MAN. Okay, I just think that there is a simple way to watch this movie without downloading an app, ALRIGHT?!??! I just think I'm missing something here... SMARTASS.

Sadly, they took out the DVD playback in Windows 8 so you can't use Windows Media Player for that anymore. Kinda lame, I know.

Search his PC for other playback software like PowerDVD or WinDVD or just download VLC and play your movie that way.

is there an attachment for a portable DVD player for games?

coutouly

person with portable DVD player wants to do puzzles or play games on it

Answer
If your portable has standard a/v inputs, you can hook anything up to it that you could hook up to a television. Maybe the reduced-size PlayStation One would be a convenient size to carry around with you, and thereâs certainly a huge variety of software available for it. You'll need a power supply for it, which is no problem if you'll be in your vehicle with a cigarette lighter. Just get one of the power inverters below. There are also battery packs available for PSOne.

There are also increasingly video game controllers which have the game software built in. All you need to do is plug them into your portable and go. I've listed several below.

If your portable lacks a/v inputs, you're pretty well out of luck. There are a few DVD-only games around, but not a wide variety, and the don't have high replay value because all you're really doing is watching clips from the DVD over and over again. Still, I guess they're better than nothing.

Good luck!

Portable DVD player loading problems?

lost in tr

I have an older model Magnavox MPD720 that actually broke only a few months after purchasing. I have no receipt and I am not even sure where I got it from, but I was hoping to get it fixed. It spins for awhile making a grinding sound, then stops, then starts again. It just says loading the entire time. I did get it to work once, but it made the loud griding sounds the entire time and skipped a lot. Any recommendations? Besides of course getting a new one, If you don't know how to fix it, then do you know where I can take it to get it fixed? Thanks!

Answer
Sweetpea, I was in the business a long time, and can tell you that the shop labor cost to repair your player will exceed it's replacement value, it's the same with most all electronics today. Sorry.

What format of movie or tv series should I have to go on DVD player?

Please help me and write me what format I need and where can I convert videos or where can I download videos of that right format for DVD. Thanks.

BTW: I'm looking for Gossip Girl, New Moon, etc.

Answer
Most DVD player only recognize standard video DVD which should include VOB, IFO and BUP files, so if you want to burn any downloaded movies to dvd that can play well on your sony dvd player, you should use the right burning software to burn standard video DVD from your movies, you can try RZ DVD Creator, now iam using it, works well, it can directly convert any movies to standard video DVD and burn to any dvd disc(DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, etc, and the burned video dvd can be played well on DVD player with good quality. You can yahoo or google search RZ DVD Creator and download it, easy to use.

At last you should note, if your dvd player is sensitive with burned dvd, you should use the good brand dvd disc, like verbatim, etc.

DVD player can't play any separate subtilte file, such as .ssa or .srt, you have to put the srt file on video DVD at first, then burn to DVD disc. If you want to burn any video files to DVD with srt subtitles, and can play well on DVD player, there is an easy way can help you, I am using RZ DVD Creator to do this well, it can directly put srt subtitle file on any video file and burn to video dvd, it can directly convert any videos to video DVD with srt subtitle and burn to any DVD disc(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), such as burn avi to video DVD with srt subtitle, etc, the burned video dvd can be played well on dvd player. You can yahoo or google search and download RZ DVD Creator, easy to use, good quality, hope it can help you.

what is better as a dvd player xbox or playstation 2?

Q. actually the xbox dvd remote i can buy it now on ebay brand new for $5.30

Answer
Why PS2, why not PS3. It's a way better console, better games, and plays Blu-Ray movies. Ok it may be a little more expensive but it will be worth it in the end.
Between the end of this year and 2012 they will be switching of ALL tv channels for analog TV's and the only way you will get a signal is if you have a tv with a HD tuner.

www.parliament.uk/documents/upload/postpn264.pdf

this link is from the UK, but i've seen articles from the US and from where i live in Australia about Analog signals been turned of.

also DVD's and DVD players will cease to exist, Blu-Ray will do what dvd's did to tapes.

In the short run it's probably a lot to waste in your eyes.
But in the long run it's going to be your only option.
Until Xbox installs Blu-Ray players and buys shares from Sony over it.

Make my dvd player Region free?

Q. I have a Sony dvp-sr200p dvd player bought from Walmart in February 2012. I have dvds that we ordered, and they turned out to be BBC, so I can not view them. I hate to purchase a new dvd player. I tried videohelp.com/dvdhacks, but none of the codes found there unlocked the region block. Please help. I have 3 more seasons coming in the mail this week, and would like to be able to view them when they arrive!

Answer
Try changing the region to 0 or 2. If you change it to 2, you will have to change it back to 1. Region 0 is all regions. Not all players can be changed either. You will also have a problem if the player does not change PAL to NTSC. If you use HDMI, then this is irrelevant.

Best deals on LCD tvs with DVD player?

I don't know where or who has the best deals. Do you know any or can you point me in the right direction please? I only want a 26". I don't mind a refurbished one. I'm not bothered by branded names either, however a good brand does usually mean better quality! Thanks xx

Answer
Dont.

You usually only find TV's with built in players in the bottom-of-the-barrel brands like Westinghouse and Dynex.

And why would you buy a HDTV that is 'crippled' by including a standard-def DVD player?

There are some good deals on name-brand LCD's from Samsung, Sony, Sharp and some good Plasmas from Panasonic. Then just add a inexpensive BluRay player and a "Media Bridge" HDMI cable from Amazon.

what is the deal with upconverting DVD players? DVDs do not have HD info inside them.

ruderitali

I am assuming that the sole purpose of an upconverting DVD player is to display the DVD at original 16:9 ratio in its full 852x480 resolution (that is if the DVD actually contains 852x480 resolution(lots of DVDs are 4:3 ratio with 720x480 standard resolution).

But heres the thing, as far as I know, in order for something to be HD, it needs to be at least 1280Ã720 resolution. Therefore if someone says a upconverting DVD player converts DVD to HD then they are lying. -source for minimum HD requirments(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television(see "Digital Video Resolutions"(ctrl f)))

What are your thoughts?

Answer
The specs you are describing would be for 'true hd.'

Basically the dvd player is basically using some neat mathematical 'extrapolation' method to blow up the DVD image to fit on an HD screen.

Technically, its not lying. Its just one of those things where the consumer needs to read the fine print.
