Best deals on LCD tvs with DVD player?

I don't know where or who has the best deals. Do you know any or can you point me in the right direction please? I only want a 26". I don't mind a refurbished one. I'm not bothered by branded names either, however a good brand does usually mean better quality! Thanks xx

Answer
Dont.

You usually only find TV's with built in players in the bottom-of-the-barrel brands like Westinghouse and Dynex.

And why would you buy a HDTV that is 'crippled' by including a standard-def DVD player?

There are some good deals on name-brand LCD's from Samsung, Sony, Sharp and some good Plasmas from Panasonic. Then just add a inexpensive BluRay player and a "Media Bridge" HDMI cable from Amazon.

what is the deal with upconverting DVD players? DVDs do not have HD info inside them.

I am assuming that the sole purpose of an upconverting DVD player is to display the DVD at original 16:9 ratio in its full 852x480 resolution (that is if the DVD actually contains 852x480 resolution(lots of DVDs are 4:3 ratio with 720x480 standard resolution).

But heres the thing, as far as I know, in order for something to be HD, it needs to be at least 1280Ã720 resolution. Therefore if someone says a upconverting DVD player converts DVD to HD then they are lying. -source for minimum HD requirments(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television(see "Digital Video Resolutions"(ctrl f)))

What are your thoughts?

Answer
The specs you are describing would be for 'true hd.'

Basically the dvd player is basically using some neat mathematical 'extrapolation' method to blow up the DVD image to fit on an HD screen.

Technically, its not lying. Its just one of those things where the consumer needs to read the fine print.
