I found some info on your TV and it seems like there is a lot of problems with that model's 3D mode.

Also it seems that LG wants you to only use their LG Blu-Ray players for "best quality and performance."

If you still have the receipt for the TV I would suggest maybe a different manufacture rather then LG.
If you don't I would try using a LG blu-ray player.

Dont.

Televisions with built in disk players are usually the lower end units, and break frequently.

As you saw - a television with a DVD player. It wont take a BluRay player, a Smart BluRay player or a 3D BluRay player. A BluRay player is $57.

Smart - For $99 you can get a small media server box like the Western Digital TV Live box. This will give you 20+ apps, the ability to play computer files from a USB flash or HDD drive. This usually has more features and better support than the apps in most televisions.

This will allow you to purchase a better, basic HDTV and save the $300 bump for the smart model.

Again - do not buy Magnavox.

The March issue of Consumer Reports has a large TV Ratings article. I suggest you go purchase a copy as it shows you what they like, what they recommend and how the prices change by size.

MY CHOICE:

The Samsung models with the Smart Hub feature has gotten great reviews. The D7000/D8000 or the E6500 models are at the top of many review lists. They cost a lot more than the Magnavox - but have outstanding image, features, and could last 5+ years.

Also - avoid Vizo. The prices are tempting but they have up/down quality. We get jumps in complaints here every few months. The parts change so frequently that Vizio admits they are un-repairable.

Is it true there wasn't any 3d in SAW 3D?

I havent seen SAW 3D yet because it is coming to my country on March 3rd and I heard from reviews on imdb there isnt any 3d used.Is this true? because if there isnt I am going to download this movie as soon as it is available and put it on my flash stick and play it on my dvd player.I really want to see this movie.I am not paying $18.50 for a 3d movie that hasnt got any 3d.I am a fan of the SAW series and have seen the first 6 movies.

I didn't watch it in 3D, but there were several parts when objects (mainly body parts) came flying towards the screen, which I assume are in 3D if you see it in 3D. So I think "Saw 3D" does have 3D.

Multiple devices or just one? Portable DVD Player + ebook reader + laptop computer OR just a laptop?

My daughter will need a laptop computer next fall for college. She'd like it now, but she needs it then. She'd also like a portable DVD Player and/or an ebook reader now.

Her birthday is tomorrow. I could get her a portable DVD player, or an ebook reader, but is that a waste of money since a laptop can play DVDs & display ebooks? Is there a legitimate reason to have multiple devices?

I'm a college student, and I've a laptop and an ebook reader (Amazon Kindle). In my opinion, they serve for different purpose. I like to read with my ebook reader very much and it stimulates my interest on reading, but I won't use my laptop computer for reading. I don't have a portable DVD player, it should be for entertainment purpose so I've no opinion about it.

One of the main reason I like my Kindle is that I can get books on the device much cheaper than actual books. If your daughter like to read, it is good to get her one as it can help you save money in long term. I remember I read these reviews about the benefits of the Kindle when I decided to buy it:

And it is actually a good chance, as Amazon recently announced a price slash on the Kindle 2. It is now selling $60 cheaper than the price I got mine... So take the chance.

1. if i don't have a 3d tv, can i still get a 3d blu ray player to make the 3d look better than regular dvd?
2. if i just get a regular blu ray player, will the 3d still be a lot better than regular dvd 3d?
3. is blu ray worth it?

No. A 2D TV is only capable of displaying older, anaglyph 3D, which uses color tinted cardboard glasses and is available on both DVD and Blu-ray.

If you want to see the true stereoscopic 3D effect that some movies on Blu-ray use (called 3D Blu-ray), then you need a 3D TV, 3D Blu-ray player, and electronically shuttered 3D eyeglasses.

You should know that "My Bloody Valentine" was released in two forms of 3D, anaglyph (DVD and Blu-ray) and stereoscopic (3D Blu-ray). Keep in mind, to watch in 3D you will need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray disc movie (at this time there are only 180 titles available in 3D and they are mainly animated movies from Disney) and 3D glasses for each person. The price is higher for any 3D product. Vizio is a bargain price tv that is not very good in quality or reliability. Sony is not know for making very good sound system and the quality and reliability have dropped over the years. I never had any Sony product that have lasted over 3 years. The first DVD player model 7000 and 7700 the following year and paid over $1,100 each. The first HDTV by Sony and paid $6,400. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on all products for a home theater. If you read yahoo questions all the time, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. When buying a speaker, you should demo them first at your local retail store. Here are some brand to look for: Definitive Technology, Energy, JBL, Infinity, Klipsch and Polk Audio to name a few. Sony is not the best on surround sound. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on just about anything you are interested in. Sony has a poor customer service support and they are not a very dependable product. I never had any Sony tv (2 first HDTV in the market price $6,400 34" CRT tv and a 32" CRT), DVD player (2 both priced at over $1,100 when they first came out) and they did not last more than 3 years. Hope this will help you out.

What is the exact name of it. I'm looking for a tv with outstanding picture quality that is good for regular tv watching and especially for sports. Any suggestions? no budget, so no need to worry about how good it is for its money or anything...thanks.

Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. Plasma tv is still considered to have the best picture quality of all tv in the market. Panasonic is the only plasma tv they recommend. As for 3D, it has not been a big hit with consumers. Keep in mind that to watch in 3D you will need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray movies (at this time there are only around 110 title available and they are mainly animated movies from Disney) and 3D glasses. The price of 3D is still very high. I never had a Sony product that have lasted me more than 3 years. The first DVD player model 7000 and the following year 7700 both priced at over $1,100 each and the first HDTV in the market. A Sony 34" CRT HDTV for the price of $6.400. If you read yahoo yahoo questions all the time, you will notice many issue with Sony. Look at a Panasonic 46" Plasma 3D HDTV or a Samsung. Hope this will help you out.

I am looking to get a blu-ray player just to play Blu-Ray and DVD discs. I am not looking for anything with apps. I just want to get my money's worth for a good, solid Blu-Ray player? What kind should I go for and why? Also, what retailer should I get it from?

Probably the Panasonic DMP-BDT 110, would be the way to go, due to the reviews that say it has good video quality compared to other players in its price range... what your going to find though is that the higher end players have better video, plus apps, this is just the way Blu Ray players are marketed, higher end players have better chips; more memory; and more apps lower end players have less apps less memory and lower end chips as a general rule...but also newer blu ray players preform better than the older model blu ray players of just a few years ago and this is especially true of the entry level line players mostly due to trickle down technology yesteryears high quality chip is now in todays economy line and the high end player has a newer chip, sometimes though the only difference is that the newer chip can do 3D and uses less electricity than the older chip so video quality on say DVD or 2D blu ray may be just as good.......a good place to buy is Amazon dot com

How can a 120 Mhz refresh rate make a picture clearer?

Aren't we breaking laws of physics? A television camera scans at 60 Mhz, then sends out the signal to television sets. No matter how fast the refresh rate is on the television, you cannot reproduce a picture clearer than what the camera photographed, right? I do not understand all the hoopla about televisions with fast refresh rates.

LCD manufacturers started increasing the refresh rates of LCD displays because of a perception of image blurring during fast motion. There is more detailed information about that, and how much it actually helps, here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6449_7-6792632-1.html .

Another reason is that motion pictures are filmed at 24 fps (frames per second). The standard refresh rate for TVs in the U.S. has been 60Hz. To prepare 24 fps material for video display (such as on DVD), components of the image are repeated, so that film material can be stored at 30Hz for video. This way a TV can get frames that divide into a whole number for correct display and timing (60/2=30). The problem is that detail is sacrificed somewhat to create the illusion of 30 from 24 (the extra frame data is an approximation, and not original material).

Blu-ray discs can preserve the structure of 24 fps film by encoding the video at 24Hz. If you have a 60Hz Tv, then the Blu-ray player will have to make up the intermediate frames to get an even number, because 60/24=2.5. But if you get a 120Hz TV, there is no need to create intermediate frames, because 120/24=5. So Blu-ray material can look sharper and more filmlike on a 120Hz TV than a 60Hz one.

With the increase in refresh rates, some TVs also incorporate motion processing. They are creating intermediate frames, not because they need to compensate for timing differences, but to create more fluid movement. They eliminate the cadence of 24 fps film and make movies look more like live video broadcasts. Technically the feature is independent of the refresh rate, but some manufacturers make it the default mode so that you have to look in the TV's menus to disable it.

3D material will also become available for home viewing, and refresh rates of 120Hz are considered the minimum to handle the display of stereo frame data.
