How do you hook up a Blu Ray DVD player that doesn't have build in wifi to the internet?

I just bought a Blu Ray Home Theater System that streams Netflix, Youtube, etc. But it doesn't have built in Wifi.

I have a wireless router from Comcast, but it's way behind the computer. Do I need to buy something else?

You just need a wireless adapter. Your bluray player should have a Ethernet slot. Plug that into wireless adapter. Not sure the actual name for the device. Just ask at best buy or an electronics store. If you could run Ethernet cable to router than that's easier because you wouldnt have to buy the adapter but buying that might be cheaper than buying a long enough ethernet cable.

I am looking for a Blu-Ray/DVDPlayer that will connect to the internet without haveing to buy any special cords or pieces or whatever.. We have wireless internet and my brother has a player with wireless internet connectivity but hes clueless.. EVERY player i buy i need a cord or piece for internet access..What do i look for on the box or info that have is already ready for internet or whatever.. Sorry if its not worded right but i kinda suck with certain electronics lol.. Anyone could help i would really appreciate it.. TYSVM

The best two devices i can think of are the Sony Blue-Ray player and Logitech Revue with Google tv, it turns your tv into a smart tv with access to the android market(including radio apps), the web, Netflix and other movie streaming websites + you can stream videos/photos/songs from other devices to tv wirelessly. it pretty much turns your tv into an android device.

I'm looking for a DVD player that has Wi-fi built-in. I'm not looking to stream Netflix or Pandora, I'm actually looking for the capability to stream videos/pictures that are on my PC. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, I'm not looking for anything really expensive or additional features (i.e. Blu-Ray, 3D).

There are plenty of blu ray players with WiFi, but I've not seen a DVD player with WiFi. If your TV has an input that matches your PC's output, you could just connect your PC directly to your TV without WiFi.

As I begin the process of buying a Blueray player, I'm confused over those that have wifi. I guess I don't know why a player needs an internet connection. Could someone fill me in on this?

1. the biggest reason why it would need an internet connection is if you bought it in hopes of streaming netflix/youtube/pandora radio etc. most people want a wireless connection because they do not want to deal with wires and running them etc, i would still recommend going wired especially if you are watching hd video since a wireless connection usually wont have the speeds necessary for hd video.

2. you can download apps to your smartphone ipod touch etc, so that you can use them as a remote, or to pass files from one source to another, example would be, if you wanted to look at the pictures in your phone on your tv you can do that through your bluray player.

3. this was the original reason why bluray players wanted/needed an internet connection, firmware updates, with bluray discs the way they are manufactured changes, they constantly improve the way its done to give you better performance, and with that you need to update the firmware so that it can continue to read all the new bluray movies out there. it just makes it easier being able to download the firmware directly to the machine vs having to download it to your pc and then burning it to a disc etc.

wifi isnt that necessary. but if you ever plan on going wifi then i would advise buying it with it built in versus buying the adaptor which costs more than the 2 combined. and usually 30-40 more. plus most retail stores have deals from the manufacture that will give away a free adaptor.

How to connect my Sony dvd player that is wireless, to my Sony TV that is not wireless?

I have a Sony Bravia TV that does not have the built-in wireless function. However, the Sony 3D DVD player that I own does have the wireless function.

My question is before I spend $80 for the Sony Bravia wireless TV USB adapter that has terrible reviews, is there a way to connect the DVD player with the TV somehow so the TV can get the internet from the DVD player?

"wireless" refers to a network connection. You still need use a HDMI cable to physically connect the player to the TV.

You can then configure your player to connect to your home's wireless (also called "wifi") network so it you can use its network applications like Facebook, or Netflix or whatever else it has installed.

While they do make "smart TVs" that have these same network features, you do not need both your TV and player to have them. Just one or the other. In your case the player will access the internet and display the contents on your TV.

I'm Looking into a Blu-Ray player, and I'm wondering if the PS3 would be a good choice for one. I'm also into video games, and I already own a Wii and a 360. However, I know many other Blu-Ray players are less than the $300 price the PS3 has. Any tips/recommendations?

Since Blu-Ray is a relatively new technology, get a player that is able to get firmware updates in case there are changes to the media. The PS3 is an excellent choice there.

A perfect example of this: Remember older DVD players cannot play CDs or burned disks, aren't compatible with MP3s, JPGs, or even AVIs. Some even had a hard time recognizing dual-layer discs. If they were able to upgrade the firmware in the player, they might still be useful today.

PS3 is so much more than just a gaming console, also. You can stream music, movies, and pictures from your PC, stream TV and movies from the internet, have access to all the NetFlix instant movies to your main entertainment system. It is also an upscaling DVD player, web browser, WiFi connectivity built in...

PS3 is a great choice if it is in your budget.

I was thinking of building my own pc, but im not 100% sure on all the parts i would need. So if you could list the parts i would need, and a resonable place to get them from. Also i was looking at spending around £400 with or without peripherals.

basically you need:

1) Motherboard -> make sure you choose carefully, because it affects what else you need, and what componentes you will be able to use.

2) CPU -> Make sure you buy a CPU that is supported by the Motherboard. Today, I would recommend one of the 2 cores CPUs. If cost is an issue, most likely and AMD Athlon64 X2 seesm to be the best option. Usually the packages come with Fans for the CPU

3) Memory -> Again you have to make sure the motherboard supports the type you buy (most likely DDR2 or DDR3). I would have at least 2GB. If planning to use windows vista or 7(not sure why anyone would) I would recommend 4GB, but this can push you out of your limit of 400.

4)Case -> Make sure it is able to mount the motherboard properly. I think most of the full cabinets are able to mount most boards nowadays. Also, make sure the Power supply is 500W or so. Other than that, just pick one you like (or the cheapest like I do). Usually Fans come with it to create the proper airflow

5) Hard Drive -> Nowadays, I think all boards are doing sata. So you should not have a lot of problem. Make sure the board has sata ports, and that you get the cable to the interface as well as the power cable (some OEM disks don't come with the power cable).

6) CD/DVD burner -> Not much to say here.

7) Video Card -> Here you usually have choices. Some boards come with an integrated video card, but they tend to share the main ram (why 2GB or more is a most). Others don;t have the integrated card, and push you to go with a PCIe card (this case you will not share memory, and usually get a better performance for 3D rendering on the HW. It all depends on your main app. I tend to use the integrated cards because they are cheaper, and I don't play games on my PCs

8) Sound card -> Usually the integrated does a decent job. If you want something mode advanced, you are going to need one that goes in a PCI slot. I think my last sound card that I bought was on the 386 days where most motherboard did not have an integrated card. ever since I've been using the integrated ones

9) Network -> Most new boards have a 1Gbps ethernet card, which is what most people use. Some come with Wireless card which is nice. but USB wifi adpaters are pretty cheap (last one I bought was G for 4 USD)

10) Display -> this is very open. sky is the limit. Just make sure you have the right interface to connect to the video port.

Optional Stuff
- Floppy Drive -> not very useful today. But can be nice if you need to upgrade BIOS.
- External Disk encolsoure -> good if you want some protection against single disk crash, and make life easy when you get a new PC. Simply unplug and plug back. However it is expensive.
- USB Hub -> You never have enough USB ports. And these tend to be pretty cheap as well. Printers, Keyboard, Mouse, USB Flash drives, Mp3 players, Cameras, cel phones tend to connect through USB
- Blue tooth adapter -> there are some nice USB bluetooth adapters. Some motherboards even come with an adapter integrated though

I have got iPhone4s and Panasonic dvd player with built in WiFi. Both have You Tube app in it. When I open it I can find and watch all normal videos uploaded by users but I am not able to see any VEVO videos. Why is it so? What can I do? Thanks.

For iPhones and iPads, you can only access music video content from our partners using the VEVO mobile app which is available from the Apple app store for free. Unfortunately, we do not have an app for your DVD player yet.
