DVD recorder/players?

Gigi

Does anyone have any information on an LG DVD Recorder / Player?

I have enough points to get either a Panasonic DVD Recorder with VCR (no other info is available) or the LG Recordable DVD Player with progressive-scan DivX/4 MPEG4 playback, editing. ( I just copied down the facts from the description, I don't know anything about them. ) I want to transfer a bunch of old VHS tapes while theyâre still in pretty good shape.
Or, should I buy a different one altogether, and use the points for something else?
My TV is a 4-year old 27â Sony Wega.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Gigi

If you'd like to do any editing of your VHS tapes prior to transferring them to DVD, it would be helpful to get a machine with a built in hard drive with editing capabilities. I got a Sylvania V200F for the purpose of converting my old VHS tapes to DVD, and it's great, but I'm not sure it's being produced anymore.

I like it because I can copy a VHS tape to the hard drive, edit out anything I don't want to save, and then go from the hard drive to a DVD.

Good luck!

DVD Recorders?

Sharon B

Can someone give me advice on buying a DVD recorder? I'd like to start with an inexpensive but reliable brand. The one's I've seen so far (at Wal-Mart, K-Mart) are definitely in my price range, but are brands I've never heard of.

Also, are there certain features I should be sure the recorder has?

I'm looking to not only record programs from TV to DVD, but to also transfer movies from VHS to DVD. Any help appreciated.

Answer
I have had a high rate of failure in DVD recorders, so if you can buy a longer replacement warranty do so, and keep all of the paperwork during the warranty time.
As your wanting to copy your VHS tapes you will need something like the "Sima CopyThis! CT-1 Video enhancer" It get around the anti copy safe guards put on tapes that prevent you from copying them. You can most likely find one on E-bay, or look for a new one if they are sill being offered for sale.
Here is a link to one, they say it's discontinued but I am sure one can be found with some more effort.
Some recorders can use both DVD+r and DVD-R media, or watch closely that you buy the correct DVD media for your recorder.

Do not buy a unit that has both the VHS player and the DVD recorder in the same unit, as you can not place the "Copy this" unit in line between them, and will not be able to record from most tapes.

The unit I am useing now was from Walmart, on a $50.00 clearance, it is the best one I have had yet, I do not recall the brand.
