If I buy a DVD player in the US will it work in the Philippines?

I want to ship a dvd player as a surprise and if I buy it here on the states, will it work there? I know with vcr's some players wouldn't work in Europe or Asia.

So I have a nice dvd player and a broken vcr player and I really want to get my mom and new vcr player so we can watch old family movies. should i just get a vcr player or a vcr/dvd combo? And what is the the best one to buy for both?

buy a SONY DVD player.

change your old video tapes to VCD.........video tapes will lose their quality after a long time.
