I wanted to convert an AVI movie to a format which could be played on a DVD player. Which format is the best?
Some of the choices are DVD-format - SECAM (*.vob), DVD-format - PAL (*.vob), DVD-format - NTSC (*.vob), MPEG-2- NTSC, MPEG-2- PAL, MPEG-2- SECAM.
Any other suggestions if not listed. Thanks

Convert NTSC DVD to PAL?
The Philos
I have a dvd with some home videos on it that are in NTSC format and I want to make a copy of the dvd but I want to watch it in another country which is Pakistan and the format there is PAL. It will be viewed using computers and dvd players on the tv. My question is do I have to convert the dvd to PAL? How can I test it to make sure it works after converting when my dvd player is NTSC?
Answer
Since you will be playing it on various players and computers in Pakistan, I strongly recommend that you have a copy in the original NTSC and also that you make at least one copy in PAL format. Odds are very likely that the NTSC format will be a problem most of the time in a PAL region. I do have one player that can play any DVD from anywhere in the world on any TV or monitor, but that's a rather exceptional player. I just wish it could read DVD audio and super audio CD. Incidentally, that player is a Wiwa which might be available to you in Pakistan. Goodness knows that you would never find such a fabulous dirt-cheap player in the west.
