Can DVD players scratch DVDs, or does it only happen from people abusing the discs?

I have a new magnavox dvd player manufactured 2012, so would that scratch the discs or do they only get scratched from careless people?
I always hold discs by the edges and keep them in the case or the dvd player.

It might but dvds can get scratched by those careless people, may happen more but people should take care of dvds and good for you for doing so and so do I. I keep a movie in the dvd player, until I am done with it, and I put back in the case or envelope say for a movie that I rented from Netflix, and a lot of dvds that I get have scratches on it, even from people that didn't take as good care of it, cause you never know who rented it before, or even after you. But for sure rented dvds for sure you should use them with care, otherwise it wouldn't work as it should.

How long does it take for Geek Squad to repair a Home Theater DVD Player?

I sent in my DVD player to my home theater system today on August 16, 2012. I was wondering about how long it takes for Geek Squad to fix things like that, and a possible estimate of how much money they will charge.

geek squad can't help you find your way out of a we paper bag. they are truly useless there like a warranty they just make you feel more secure about a product you spend a lot of money for that you don't really understand. you know like a emergency exit on a airplane....
