I downloaded a video from Amazon and it came as a wmv file. I want to play this video on my DVD player but how? and I'm running ubuntu (linux) but downloaded the video with a windows machine help?

Answer
Amazing how many answers don't pick up on the fact that you use Linux.
THE easiest way to do this on whatever computer you are on is to use the online media converter to save the file as a VOB file. You DVD will be able to read the VOB files

DVD players can often also read xVid, DivX, MPG and AVI files...just save these files on a DVD and your player should be able to find what it needs.

If you don't like things easy and want to show how clever you are then use the command line using mencoder and ffmpeg

e.g. Convert a file called video.wmv from wmv to avi from the command line...
mencoder video.wmv -ofps 23.976 -ovc lavc -oac copy -o video.avi

e.g. convert a file called video.avi to play on an NTSC dvd player
ffmpeg -i video.avi -target ntsc-dvd /tmp/dvd.mpg

What can i use to burn AVI files to DVD?

Angry Gran

So i can play them in a DVD player?
It needs to work with Windows or Linux, Both would be nice.
Note:I don't want cut and paste answers to promote a program you are affiliated with

Answer
Use Nero software, Its easy & is what you are looking for.
