how do you play a dvd on a macbook?

i've just got a new one, and when i put the dvd in the slot, the icon of it appears in the desktop, but nothing else happens. when i dubble click on the icon, it opens with loads of files that the computer says it cant play. ive also tried dragging the icon into dvd player app. but nothing happens. help!

Your MacBook can play video DVDs but it can't play Windows games DVDs. If you have a DVD that is a movie, TV show etc., just insert it. If the DVD player doesn't automatically open, go to the DVD player and open it. Then go to "file" in the menu, and select "open DVD media". If it doesn't work, then something is wrong with the DVD.

Are there any car stereo dvd players that have built in hard drives?

I can't seem to find a car stereo that stores music and can be operated by a touchscreen like a dvd player has. Are there any like this? How about one that has apps like Pandora?
I'm not looking for one that uses the phone's or iPod's storage though, I'm looking for one that has it's own. But thanks for answering.

I just got the Pioneer AVH3300. It doesn't have internal storage, but it has USB and AUX connections so I just plug my iPod into it. It is touchscreen and plays DVD's. Also, if you have a smartphone you can download a Pandora app to it, and plug in your phone via an AUX cable.
