best ceiling mount dvd players image
John
I currently have a large tv stand in my room that takes up a lot of room and was planning on simply mounting my tv to the wall, but what would I do with my ps3 and cable box? Is there a product that doesn't take up much room, or shows many wires that would allow me to keep these "accessories" to my tv when I mount it? A picture would help, thanks!
Answer
It depends on what your wall is made of.
If there is a gap in it, you could do this.
I mounted my 40"tv on the wall, bought brushed wall plates for cables, you can buy double or single ones (they have brushes instead of a socket) and ran the cables for the tv, dvd player etc... inside the wall.
I fixed a floating shelf to the wall above the tv with the dvd player etc.. on it, and put one wall plate there & the other behind the tv.
I threaded the cables through the wall, with the ends sticking out of the brushed wallplates so all you see is the dvd player etc.. sitting on the floating shelf & the tv itself.
I have an electrical socket fitted up by the shelf & one behind the tv - got an electrian to fit them.
It looks fantastic & there are no visible cables, but if you want to move your ps3 or cable box to another tv, unless you have spare cables it would be a nightmare threading them back in again.
If it's all hdmi cables, you can just leave them in the wall & keep a couple of spares.
Alternatively, you can fix a panel floor to ceiling (painted to match your walls) slightly wider than the width of your tv leaving a couple of inches behind & do the same thing attached to that.
Takes up next to no space & keeps everything neatly out of sight.
This can look stunning if you mount a low level light source behind the panel too which will shine out from behind it.
