Why are new movies still released on DVD and why are DVD players still being sold?

Blu-Ray players have come down in price considerably, to the point where just about everybody can afford one. Why wouldn't the industry just push toward eliminating DVD players by only releasing new movies on Blu-Ray? I'm sure people who only have a DVD player would go out and buy at least a cheap high def player instead of refusing to rent or buy new releases. Is there simply too much money being made on the few DVD players that are left on the market despite their low price?

Answer
Where are all the DVD players gonna go? Someone has to buy them even if it is at a low price so it isnt a complete loss for the company...and people allways like good deals even if they dont need the stuff ...its all about thinking it through, give it a second thought.

What is the best HD DVD Player for a cheap price?

I am looking for the best HD DVD Player (upconvert, HD, etc.) that I can buy for a low price. I know everyone says that you shouldn't go for a low price, but I want to. Does anyone know of a good HD DVD Player with component input/outputs? I doesn't need to have HDMI, but it has to upconvert or be at HD quality. I am looking for one under $150. Thanks!
Interesting, I never thought of the PS3. Does it have all of the same ports as an HD DVD player does? Does it have a remote so I don't have to use the controller?
Any other cheap HD DVD Players on the market?
It need not to be Blu-Ray.

Answer
PS3 plays Blu-Ray discs which are high definition DVD's but are not HD-DVD. The PS3 also costs $600 but it is the cheapest high definition recorded media player out there as Sony eats over $200 of the cost of the product from every sale. With that in mind, you are NOT going to find one for anywhere near $150 for a couple years. It's best to wait anyway until a dual compatibility player that plays both HD-DVD and BluRay comes out. In the mean time, you're going to have to stick with your progressive scan DVD player.

Another idea, why not subscribe to DirecTV HD or similar? I know DirecTV is offering their HD receiver for free at the moment. Instead of renting movies, you can order PPV and you can get them in HD quality. I know it's not the same but for your price bracket it would do until HD-DVD players come down in price.
