I just loaded Ubuntu and I don't know what I must do to use the DVD player again. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
You have to enable "Universe" under apt-get, then get VLC or MPlayer.
Both of those will ignore the region code of the player if necessary.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs has full instructions.

What's the simplest way for an Ubuntu user to view the internet through his television set?

Q. Said television has RCA, coaxial, and S-video inputs.

Cable box and DVD player accept digital signals.

Answer
your computer would need to be able to output via those connection. there is two ways i can think of to do this, 1 there might be an adapter for vga, or 2 you could by a card and intall it in your computer, unless you are using a laptop
