How to download a USB Slim Portable Optical Drive (External DVD player) to the computer...?

I purchased a USB Slim Portable Optical Drive (it's an external DVD player) because my Samsung Netbook doesn't have an internal DVD player... I got the Optical Drive today and when I plug it into my computer a folder pops up but nothing in the folder downloads it onto the computer and I still can't watch movies or put music on my laptop... any suggestions?

Bought dvd player in UK
Checked with the store when it didn't work with region 1 and they just said to send it back as it was against the law for them to tell me how to decode it

The player is already region free.

Please check with store if it is not working with other region DVDs
