What is wrong with ZENITH XBR617 DVD/VCR Combo Player?

mr_bala_nj

Purchased a ZENITH XBR617 DVD/VCR Combo Player to convert all my home video (VHS) cassettes to DVDs. I used dubbing function and converted a VHS cassette to DVD. But that DVD is not working in my other DVD players(Sony, coby) and in my computer too. Is there any setup I have to do to make those DVDs work on other DVD players. Please advise.

Answer
Its probably one of two things.

1. You are not finalizing the disk, you must finalize a disk to use it anywhere other than in its creating player

2. You are creating a DVD+R and trying to play it in a player that only plays DVD-R or vice versa

VCR/ DVD Player that records vhs tapes to dvd...?

I'm looking for a VCR and DVD player in one that I can transfer my VHS tapes to DVD. I've looked online and the average price is $150.00. I was looking for something less expensive than that. Am I looking at the wrong type of equipment, or is this really what they average at? Can anyone give me a reccomendation on what to purchase?
The videos I want to transfer are home-made videos from family get togethers.

Answer
if the VHS tapes that you want to convert are Hollywood movies, then this is the wrong equipment. Combo VHS/DVD devices won't allow macrovision protected VHS tapes to be recording onto the DVD. The only way to salvage old movies is to use a stand alone VHS player and run the video to a macrovision eliminator and then to a DVD recorder. But i question why you want to do that. VHS is very low resolution, only 1/3d the resolution of DVD, and VHS movies are not widescreen. When you eventually get a large LCD television you will not like viewing VHS originated movies. Many old movies are available used on DVD and some can even be bought for $1 new at the dollar discount stores. I suggest you not endure the cost of conversion, and just go find the movies you want on DVD.

Edit. you don't have to buy any equipment. take your tapes to a photo shop and they will make DVDs for you. you would have to have a lot of tapes for it to be cheaper to buy new equipment.
