Do 3D DVD Players exist?

Kristine A

Do 3D DVD Players exist? Where can I buy one? Thanks!

Answer
3D DVD is not the same as 3D Blu-ray.

3D DVD is based on the anaglyph system. This is where the glasses have colour filters - Red & blue in the case of 3D DVDs. Here's a link showing what the images look like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaglyph_3D

Anaglyph doesn't require the extra frames of information the Blu-ray and cinema systems use. All it is is a DVD image with slightly oddly placed colour. As far as the DVD player and TV are concerned it's the same as any normal DVD. In fact that's why it has been used for so long. It's universal and requires no special equipment other than some cheap filter glasses. Hell, I remember as a kid their being 3D comic books. It really is a low-tech solution. This is why any TV and any DVD player will do for anaglyph.

Hope this helps

can I play 3D DVDs in a standard DVD player?

Answer
There are no such thing as a 3D DVD, however there is a 3D Blu Ray Disc movie and 3D blu ray disc player. Keep in mind to watch in 3D you need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray disc movie and 3D glasses. Hope this will help you out.
