Upconverting DVD players (or blu-ray players for that matter) are only worthwhile if you have a HDTV. They will do nothing to enhance your image on a regular TV.

Since blu-ray players will also upconvert DVDs on HDTVs, the only reason to buy just an upconverting DVD player instead of a blu-ray player is the fact that upconverting DVD players are under $50 whereas blu-ray players are about $150.

Can a Gateway laptop play a dvd from another region?

I am planning to order dvds from England and I heard I have to have an all code dvd player. Since I don't have that, can I just play the dvd in my Gateway laptop???

By law your computer DVD player is region locked. You are allowed to change the code 5 times and then it will lock to the last region that you used forever.

There are several ways to get round this, but my answer wold probably be deleted by YA if I were to tell you.

You can buy cheap all regions DVD players in the UK. Just go to Amazon .co.uk and search for multi region DVD player. The have several for under 50 pounds.
