Answer
Your laptops card reader might not detect your card if it is bigger than 2G.
Download camera to pc
You have 3 ways to do this.
1. install the software that came with the camera and connect your camera via the USB cord, put your camera in playback mode. Your software should auto download your camera.
2. Use a card reader (you need a external USB card reader if your card is over 2G). Open MyComputer (XP) or Computer (vista) and see your card, open it and copy paste from your card to your pictures file or videos to your videos file. Please note that videos and pictures are in 2 different folders on your card.
3. If you have Windows Vista with Windows Photo Gallery, then you do not need any software, just hook your camera to your pc, via the USB cord and put the camera in playback mode, WPG will auto download and the program will launch and voila your pics and videos will be there.
If you want to use Windows Movie Maker to edit your cameras videos, you will need to convert the videos using a free video converter, http://www.handbrake.fr/ or http://www.any-video-converter.com/download-avc-free.php

How do I convert a DVD taken off my sony camcorder so it will play on my computer?
Scott H
I videotaped myself playing guitar and singing; then I used a standard DVD player to download it to. The DVD will play on a home DVD player but Windows says the file is not supported. I cannot open it or upload it on my Dell Dimension E510.
Answer
Just finalize disk & insert to pc drive to upload/import to pc to edit / share
There are 3 types of files on DvD disc=>.vob, .ifo & .bup. IFO is an index file containing navigational info, i.e., where a video chapter begins & where audio & subtitle streams exist w/in the movie (VOB) file. Only the video.vob file is used for editing - convert if not supported.
>>> Import VOB files (mpeg2) directly using Ulead VStudio or Power Director
http://video-editing-software-review.top...
Or use .FREE. Windows movie maker (entry-level editor bundled w/ XP or Vista)
Unfortunately, .vob is not supported by wmmaker.
Convert video.vob files to avi or wmv first before import to editing app.
=>Try Prism or Kates (free video converter)
- google, download & open app
- set supported output format/resolution (avi; wmv) & pc folder destination
- insert FINALIZED DvD disc to pc drive
- add video.vob files from DvD folder/Video_TS
video editing process- XP/wmm2
>>> open wmm- start/all programs/wmm->TASK pane
1. Import converted video files, music, pics-
2. Edit- drag/drop video files->timeline & enhance w/effects, transition, music & titles
3. Finish (render)- save Movie âOK for youTube, also save Project.msmmw file
>>> Share-burn to DvD, use DvD authoring app, e.g.,DvD Flick, Nero, etc.)
For Vista/wmm6, tâis similar: Import/ Edit/ Publish/
