Dvd on Windows Media Player?

I am trying to watch a dvd on windows media player, and I have done it before. Usually it lets me just click on the options on the main menu to start the movie. But it isnt letting me do it this time. I can't get it to play. I can only get to the main menu, but that's it. Is there any way I can get it to start playing??

No worry.Don't use Windows Media player to play dvd movie. Use VLC player instead. download VLC player free here: http://www.videolan.org

Intervideo WinDVD, Cyberlink Power DVD and WIndows Media Player ...?

So I archived all my old dvds to an extrenal hard drive as a backup and storage. I can play them fine with WinDVD and Cyberlink Power DVD but not with Windows Media Player. Why will the play in Intervideo WinDVD and Cyberlink PowerDVD but NOT in Windows Media Player, whats the difference between those softwares ? Is there a way I can convert the files so they play in Windows Media Player ? I'm just worried that in a few years I won't be able to play these files anymore as I'm throwing the old DVDs away to make space.

Two different times I've downloaded DVD decoders but neighter has helped the problem. My CD player works just fine on my computer, but I can't understand why the DVD player won't work. My DVD slot says on the front of it DVD ROM. When I put the DVD in it just spins for a few minutes then nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? DVD with a copyright protect always. So I think that is the problem.

Or your DVD player not support your DVD version.

I play my DVD on computer with my Windows Media Player. Just use Aimersoft DVD Ripper to converter my DVD to AVI format.

I watch movies all the time on the net. And download a lot of them. But when I put the downloaded movie ( DVD R disk) in my DVD player it just says error. And my DVD player supports Windows Media files. Do I need to convert the file? How would I do that?

I am trying to burn a DVD (photo slideshow with video) on my computer and then watch it on my home DVD player. I have Windows DVD maker and Roxcio DVD creator. Can anybody tell me how to do this? I can play it back on any computer but not at home.

try using different brands of dvd blanks. it could be that the one you're using now is not compatible with your home dvd player.

I can't say definitely for your model, but usually laptop CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives are replaceable even if they're not meant to be user replaceable.

Your best option is to take it to a computer repair shop, they can open it up and have a look
(note opening laptops is a very fiddly procedure there is like a million screws and you need a precision screwdriver set to do it.).

If it is, you or the repair shop should be able to purchase a " laptop blu ray drive " from ebay or a computer parts seller. It doesn't matter what make, it's a standard fitting.

There isn't dvd player which can read and play windows media video disc, because most regular DVD player only recognize the standard video DVD which include VOB, IFO and BUP files, some Divx/Xvid DVD player can read divx/xvid avi videos on dvd disc. Windows Media Player on my new PC running Windows Vista is limiting my ability to play foreign language DVDs purchased in other countries (it says that the DVD is not made for region 1). It I tried to look for a FREE region-independent DVD player software, but my search turned up only unreliable players like RioDVD Region Free Player. Are there any recommendations out there?

VLC media player will play literally anything. It's hard to find files that VLC won't play. (Well, of course I mean files that are media files)
