My sister & I are driving 15 hrs with my 2 kids and I'm thinking it's time to invest in a portable DVD player for the car. What should I look for in terms of features, battery life, etc? Any recommendations...or warnings?
Wow! So judgemental. No my kids don't watch TV at home. You look out a window for 15 hrs w/o getting bored & let me know how that goes!
PS: we make this trip & another of this magnitude 3-4 times a year so this would ideally be a longer-term investment.

I think that is a very good idea! For anyone who has traveled long distances like that in a car with/as a child--it is HARD!! You can only pack so many books and little games to play in the car, before everyone needs to just relax and focus on something other than the stuff zipping past. Which BTW, can cause some
people to become car sick easier (looking out the window).

You can't install a dvd that has a screen visible to the driver unless there is a cut-off that shuts off the video as soon as the vehicle is put in gear, I hope you realize. Most in-dash dvd players actually feed screens in the back to entertain the kids on a trip.
