I have a Philips surround system and the dvd player just went out. The speakers still work, so I want to know if I can only buy the dvd player? Or will I have to buy the whole entertainment system again?

It depends on how much connectivity your system has. If it has some sort of digital audio INPUT connection - either optical or coaxial then yes you can hook up a DVD player to it. You need the digital audio input connection in order to get surround sound. If it does not - and many cheaper units do not then you would have to buy the whole thing again. Which is why a lot of people recommend NOT buying these all in one units.

I have a new Windows 7 Ultrabook (no dvd drive) laptop. Just wondering how best to run old programs/games off of the hard drive? I have a external dvd player to transfer the files. Thanks.
Some games (like Madden/Civilization) require you to leave the CD/DVD in the Drive and not run it completely off the CD/DVD Drive.
I mean run it completely off the hard drive.

It's best to reinstall any applications or games on the new computer instead of copy and pasting the files over. Sometimes that will work but a lot of the time the programs have dependencies installed in other places (such as the registry or a folder with saved data).

To transfer you will need to hook up your old hard drive to a PC and burn the files to a cd or flash drive.

I have an acer aspire t690, I installed windows 7 and i seemed to have lost the driver for my cd-dvd player. I tried insllaing the resource dvd and it does not work or read disc? Is there an upgrade or did I do something wrong. How do I re-install vista from windows 7.
