Can the blueray dvd of usa would work with blueray player in india?

Vikalp Tiw

As my brother is coming from usa i just ordered him to bring batman triology set, so i just want to know that would thier be any compatiblity issue or any other problem

Answer
Blu-ray discs are region coded like DVDs. India and the US are not in the same region so the player won't recognize the discs.

Even if it did, you have another problem. The video standard used in the US (NTSC) is different than the one used in India (PAL) and they aren't interchangeable or compatible.

So you would either need a TV that can handle NTSC,or you would need a NTSC->PAL converter.

You might be able to find a region-free blu-ray player that has a built-in converter. I bought one made by Orei for about US$150.

DVD Player region?

John

Hi,
We bought DVD Player from Duraband in USA.
We are going back to India.
Does anyone know whether we can use the DVD Player in India (of course we know that we need to buy the voltage adopter).
We want to know whether the India DVDs will work on this DVD player.

Answer
Once you take it to India, take it to any DVD repair shop and tell them to change it to all zone.If your DVD has been bought after the year 2000,then they are all zone.

help with a new dvd player

stinkers_u

does anyone know of a dvd player that plays every video format inc all versions of divx and is mutli regional. I own a philips thats 4 years old and I want to replace it. I haven't managed to find a dvd player at the moment that does the same thing as my old one! They all have hd on them now and I'm not really interested in that. My dad bought a new philips and took it back because it wouldn't play all divx's. I want a machine that can do everything...all bar the washing up!

Answer
I have a LG dvd Player that can play Divx as well.
Plus, it has a USB slot which allows you to play Dvix file through Pen drive. And, surprise, its region free.
The Model no. is DV 356.
It is also quite cheap. I bought it in India & it cost me approx $ 100.

Check it out at the following URL

where can I buy xbox 360 hd dvd player in India and are there only one kind which attaches to xbox360?

gautam

thanks for the answers - reason I asked is cause my xbox 360's disc drive is not working and as I have moved to India where support for xbox is really bad, I stuck with box which cann't play anything so buying an external drive to play games is the only option now for me

Answer
The HD DVD players have been discontinued according to my knowledge cause HD DVD lost the format war to Blu-Ray. You can still get it on Amazon and Ebay, but it's not worth spending all the money on it now since NO new movie releases will come out on HD DVD.... It's just better to get a PS3 or a Blu-Ray player to suffice your HD movie needs...

I recently bought a television from Japan, when I played it in India the picture keeps flickering. Even when I play movies using with the DVD player I bought from Japan same thing happens. I using an adapter to convert the current from 220v - 100v
Can someone tell me what might be the problem?
Its more like a constant flickering where I cannot see the picture properly. Its more like running picture but the sound is fine.
The same happens when I watch DVD movies using my DVD player and disc bought in Japan.

Answer
I'm surprised that it works at all, considering that Japan uses NTSC-M, and India uses PAL-B. Besides being different color encoding standards, the horizontal scan rates and vertical refresh rates are also different.

Be that as it may, you say it's working but you're bothered by a flickering. Since Japan's vertical refresh rate is 60 fields per second, and India's electrical frequency is 50 cycles per second, you're probably seeing the difference frequency between your TV display and the lights in your room.

While 60 times a second is pretty fast, and even the slower 50 times a second is still okay, you're seeing a difference frequency of 10 times a second, and THAT is noticeable. Like watching an old cowboy movie where the stagecoach spokes appear to be spinning backward. The spiinning spokes are one frequency, but the film frame rate are a different frequency, so a difference is created that looks out of sync. If you turn off ALL lights, you should see the flicker substantially reduced.

Edit: THAT sounds more likely. The TV cannot lock up to the video because it's playing at a different rate than the TV If that's the case, it probably looks like jagged slanted lines, maybe with color flickering in and out. It has nothing to do with power or adapters, but the different TV standards used in the two countries. You have an NTSC TV, which doesn't work with local PAL broadcasters. Even with an NTSC DVD player, you're buying local PAL DVD's which are incompatible. If you can buy NTSC DVD's, you should be able to watch them, but then you'll see the flickering that I described previously, like the old-time movie flickering.

hi friends,
iam planning to buy Sony 7" Portable DVD Player - Black (DVPFX730) in US to take it to india.will it work there?and what about the DVDs we get in india, can i play those dvds in this player?time is short and i cant do much of research on this.thats why seeking your help.please help me.

Answer
1. you won't even be able to plug it in! you need a travel adapter for india. It will take care of the 220v issue.
2. probably not because India DVDs have a different region code (5) than US (1) and the region code has to match between the dvd and the player. most DVDs and players are region coded.

I have bought a new sony DVD player from usa and hace brought it to india?

harjit s

now that dvd player is not working but keep giving message" display prohibited due to area restrictions"
. what seems to be the problem? how to rectify?

Answer
Each DVD player has a "region code" assigned to it that only allows it to play discs that are encoded to that region. The purpose is primarily to reduce pirating.

It is possible that you can reset the region code. Check your DVD manual or call the customer support number.

Ms. K

If i buy dvds from india can they still play on my american dvd player here?

Answer
No. DVDs are made to work in different parts of the world. The US is region 1 where as India is region 5. You DVD player is a region 1 so it can only play region 1 discs.

There is one way to get around it though. In several on-line forums you can learn hacks that you can do to your player to make it region free. Then you can play it on your player.

Also a computers region code can be changed to play multi-region discs. Be careful though. The region on your computer can only be changed 5 times. So choose wisely.

What kind of DVD media should I purchase for this?

Caramba

So, I am planning to burn a classic and hard-to-find Hindi movie for myself. I need to burn it onto media that will be readable in a regular DVD player in India. Any hints on what kind of media I should buy? FYI: Hindi movies typically take up about 6.5 G - they are long.

Answer
Most stand alone DVD players play the DVD+R media the best in my experience. You really don't need a 6.5GB disc as there are many programs (freeware DVDShrink is great) that can slightly reduce the quality so that it will fit on a standard 4.7GB single layer disc.
