Dell Latitude D620 DVD player not reading disks? (Windows XP)?

Shelby

While taking a roadtrip with my family, I noticed that my laptop had stopped reading disks. This was about a week ago.

Today, I wanted to play a PC game and when I inserted the disk, I couldn't hear the DVD player powering up like it normally does. My friend said that there could be dust, so I blew into it and after I inserted a disk, I could hear the DVD player powering up, but it still wasn't reading my disk.

I am really low on money and could use a simple solution!

Thank you in advanced!

Answer
Hi,

You may run a Microsoft Fix-it for problems with CD or DVD drives that canât read or write media:

http://dell.to/18xXapB

If the issue persists, try deleting upper/lower filters manually.

Note: Following steps are going to alter the registry settings of the computer. Before you proceed, you can either back up the registry settings or can create a restore point. You can get detailed information on creating the restore point from the link below:

http://dell.to/1bRFTLY

For more information on deleting the Upper lower filters, you may refer to the link below:

If the issue persists, you may have to upgrade the firmware of optical drive. Check the make and model# of the CD/DVD drive in 'Device Manager' and then download the firmware for same from the following link:

http://dell.to/10ksYYf

Enter the service tag and select the operating system. Under 'Removable Storage', you will find the firmware of CD/DVD drive listed. Click on the relevant firmware. Check for installation instructions on same webpage. Download and install it by following onscreen instructions.

If the issue persists, CD/DVD drive might need replacement.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards,

I have a DVD player on my Windows XP computer but can't get any DVD to play on it.?

Two different times I've downloaded DVD decoders but neighter has helped the problem. My CD player works just fine on my computer, but I can't understand why the DVD player won't work. My DVD slot says on the front of it DVD ROM. When I put the DVD in it just spins for a few minutes then nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to activate something on the computer to get the DVD to work? Please, help.
I have a DVD player in my computer.

Answer
DVD with a copyright protect always. So I think that is the problem.

Or your DVD player not support your DVD version.

I play my DVD on computer with my Windows Media Player. Just use Aimersoft DVD Ripper to converter my DVD to AVI format.

Once I get a new DVD, I can enjoy it anywhere as I want. such as my iPod, Zune, computer etc. So I recommend you get one. Or free try it first: http://www.aimersoft.com/dvd-ripper.html#161

Hope this may help you.

How do I remove a dvd player I have in an old tower and install in a new one?

best dvd player xp on Windows 8 DVD Player - DVD Converter for Windows 8

Q. My husband and I bought a new compaq presario(tower only) with xp and already has only a cd-writer in it. It does have an Expansion Bay right below the Cd-Writer so that is why I assume that means we can take our old cd-dvd player out of our old tower and put it in this new one. Our old tower was a NEC but the cd-dvd player didn't orginally come with it...the original Nec tower had a problem and and the new cd rom dvd player was installed by another computer company that we hired to try to fix the tower at that time. We still kept the old tower to see if another family member wanted it for their system but they didn't so does anyone know how I can remove it from the old tower and install it in this new tower?

Answer
This might sound a little crazy.. Undo the screws.. Remove the DVD drive and install it in the new tower. It should be a simple process.
