Windows Media Player video help?

Insane Spo

I have been trying to play an old home made video on my new laptop (this video has played on other computers before) but won't play on this one because it said something about it being an unsupported file type. It's a .dvd file. Is there some sort of download I could get for Windows Media Player to get this DVD to work?

Answer
You probably miss the DVD codec which is .Vob and .TS. You have two solutions: either you update and make sure to check mark all codecs boxes, or you get a free alternative for it. I have found KMP and VLC to be very reliable. Some other useful codecs are Mpeg (1, 2 or 3).

1) Codecs pack (9.59MB): http://www.filehippo.com/download_codec_pack/download/32e47ccb9db1905814e3a137e939ce6e/
If you have Windows 7 here sre the right codecs (26.47MB): http://www.filehippo.com/download_windows_7_codecs/download/8089c345f6aa8529b402d330a0e6a0c2/
Windows Vista codecs ( 21.96MB): http://www.filehippo.com/download_vista_codec_package/download/b9fb27f0fdabbe49a255b047acc061ee/
2) Windows Media Player 11: (24.56MB) http://www.filehippo.com/download_windows_media_player/download/216e667f9ad91a0e45ae2383a3beed1d/
3) KMP: http://www.filehippo.com/download_kmplayer/download/349cfa16d7ff6f970675a03c00695839/
4) VLC: http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc/download/0c2b1db795b61124cc91f7666d429d0b/

Free DVD Burner for my windows 7 pc?

nathan a

My pc only came with Windows DVD Burner, and i don't like it very much. Sometimes my dvd's come out with no sound, while others come out perfectly fine. It takes nearly an hour to burn just one DVD, and it only accepts certain formats, which doesn't allow me to burn most of what i want. Are there any good, FREE dvd burning programs i can download to use? Ones that are easy to use and reliable?

Answer
Try DVD Flick.

The best and most reliable DVD burning tool that I've ever used is a tool called DVD Creator. It's able to burn all kinds of videos to DVD disc. After that, you can view the DVD on DVD player. It also lets you edit videos and create DVD menus. Easy to use and professional.

You should really give it a try. You may check out at:

Best of luck.

Windows Media Player cannot play DVD- display settings?

(-)

I am using Windows 7 and have always been able to play DVDs
last week I had to do a System restore, the only thing that changed is that whenever I try to play a DVD I get this error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings"

even after adjusting the resolutions the same message appears
I tried playing it on InterActual and got a similar message as well

I've tried downloading some codecs but nothing changed
could it have anything to do with the System Restore?

What can I do to fix this problem?

Answer
I am not sure what is causing your problems, but there are many other DVD player programs that you can download off of the internet for free. I use VLC Media Player, and FLV Player with no issues.

why wont my windows media player play dvds?

Austin

rencently i had to delete real player because it refuses to play my dvds unless i pay 30 bucks to upgrade, well they can go to hell on that one. so i tried using windows media player and it wont even register that theres a dvd in the laptop. then i went through my computers online app store and they dont have any media players that play dvds, its all just online streaming. how can i fix this? or is there any trustworthy alternative to media player that plays actual dvds? i refuse to pay for something that should be free

Answer
Hi, If you have win8 then microsoft took out the decoder to play DVD's due to third party cost. You can either get a codec pack, or get an alternative player. I do not recommend codec packs, they will eventually mess up your computer, best codec pack is "shark007.net". Links below.

The best free players are VLC media player by videolan, media player classic home cinema, KM player, and Daum PotPlayer. They play pretty much anything including DVD's. My favorite is Daum PotPlayer.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (Official site of VLC player by videolan. Pay attention while installing, if you don't want files associated with VLC then uncheck those options during setup. If you want after installing you can right click on the video file and choose to play with VLC.

To play DVD with VLC - open VLC - in taskbar at top click on media - then click open disk.

http://www.dvbsupport.net/download/index.php?act=view&id=230 (Daum PotPlayer latest stable version. Click on the big blue button to download it. You don't have to install the potplayer live files and you can ignore any directx update message. You MUST right click the daum icon and run as administrator to set file associations in windows 7. You might change the skin also to original_en.dsf

http://www.dvbsupport.net/download/index.php?act=view&id=268 (Daum PotPlayer beta update. If you want, install this after installing PotPlayer above. This is optional.)

http://www.dvbsupport.net/info/potplayer.html (Daum PotPlayer version history/fixes.)

After installing open it up and right click on it - in the video tab - set video renderer to "overlay mixer" for some older computers, or keep it on "evr custom present" for newer computers. You may want to change the skin & aspect ratio options also. You can manage file associations - right click - preferences - association tab.

In win7 right click Daum icon and run as admin before making changes in settings. Also go in preferences - general - touch - then disable touch screen.

To play a DVD with PotPlayer - right click on it on the second open tab popout click "open DVD' or on the last tab to open your "CD/DVD" drive

http://mpc-hc.org/ ( Official site of media player classic home cinema. Available in 32-bit or 64-bit and will download from sourceforge.)

I hope this helps you out. Good luck!

i am trying to play a DVD on my computer and windows media player is asking me to download a mpeg-2 decoder..?

JJ S

why do I have to pay for it when I go to the microsoft page? is there a free one I can download that will work with windows media player?

Answer
what i like to do is to download the PowerDVD 7 trial (its free)

http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/download_hotlink.jsp

i run it once and uninstall it ... it leaves the codec on your system. and windows media player will use that codec from than on.

DVDflick is freeware, can create DVD from some movies, but it have error on my computer when create DVD from some movies, so you can try DVDflick by youself, maybe ok on your win7 computer, now i am using an inexpensive shareware RZ DVD Creator, work well, if you will, you can try it by youself, it can convert and burn any movies to standard video DVD, and can play well on home DVD player, it can burn long movies into one DVD, it can burn multiple movies into one DVD, it can auto fit the size, it can easy add professional dynamic DVD menu, it can convert and burn any movies to DVD(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc.).

You can yahoo or google search and download "RZ DVD Creator", easy to use, it isn't freeware, but inexpensive, good quality, most functionality, hope it can help you!

How do you Burn video files to a DVD?

best dvd player windows 7 free download on best sellers the new york times best sellers children s books ...
best dvd player windows 7 free download image

chatterbox

I have movies on my computer that I downloaded, and I have blank DVD-R discs. I would like to put the movies from my computer onto the disc, so that I can watch it on my DVD player. Can anyone give me step-by-step instructions on how to do this? Please don't just say "use nero" or whatever, because I've seen many people with questions similar to mine get answers like this.
Thanks :]

Answer
Well Let me tell you all of it:

For writing a DVD you need to have a DVD writer drive and a program that called Nero. But as Nero is a heavy program, you need to have more than 128MB RAM on your computer ( cuz Nero sometimes takes more than 250MB RAM for writing on a disk ) And if you didn't have, Nero will usually fail to write on your disks.

If you would have More than 128MB RAM and a DVD writer drive, and also Nero installed this is the way to burn your DVDs:

1st. Open the DVD writer's tray and put your writable DVD in, and then close it ( remember you can't write on a DVD that is not writable.).

2nd. Open Nero and choose DVD at the top of it. Choose the type of DVD you wanna make ( data is the best ).
In this position Nero will show you a new window where you can add, copy, make folders, ETC. And manage how to write it.

Well for writing a movie you can click on the add button and then browse your computer and choose the movie file you wanna burn. Add it and click on finish. then click on next.

3rd. This is the final position. You can write the name of movie at the place to write the name of your disk. Choose your burning speed ( lowest speeds are better for movies ) and click on burn. Wait until Nero would say: Burning process successfully completed.

The free download of newest version of Nero:
http://www.9down.com/Nero-7-Premium-Reloaded-v7-10-1-0-13207/

Its a free link to download Nero and it said all things about it.

Hope it helps.

How to get a movie too play on my laptop?

bubbles

I put the movie in the DVD drive now can't get it too play. Is there a certain setting I go too? Also, when I try to eject it, it blinks a green light a few times and that's it. The movie doesn't come out. This is an older laptop called a Think pad T series. Please help!

Answer
You would need a DVD player application (program).
Windows Media player can also play DVD discs, with the proper codecs installed, but it sucks.
I also advise people not to use Windows Media Player for anything.
Also, if your "autostart" option is disabled, you need to manually launch the DVD player application and load the DVD disc into it to start the playback.

Or just install the 100% free VLC Media Player, best player ever.
It plays every type of video file, including DVD discs, without the need of any additional codecs being installed.
Download here:
http://get.videolan.org/vlc/2.0.7/win32/vlc-2.0.7-win32.exe

Install VLC.
Launch VLC player manually, by clicking on its icon. Go to Media > Open Disc > DVD and the DVD is loaded and should start playing.
