I have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 11, when I put in a DVD there is sound but no video how can fix this?

in order for windows media player to play dvds properly, they need a video codec - the easiest way is to find a free dvd player off the internet and then you will have the codec installed on your computer after that install - hope this helps as I dont have any suggestions for good free software but check at cnet downloads and download dot com for possibilities and make sure they are totally free, not free to try shareware

There isn't dvd player which can read and play windows media video disc, because most regular DVD player only recognize the standard video DVD which include VOB, IFO and BUP files, some Divx/Xvid DVD player can read divx/xvid avi videos on dvd disc. It I tried to look for a FREE region-independent DVD player software, but my search turned up only unreliable players like RioDVD Region Free Player. Are there any recommendations out there?

VLC media player will play literally anything. It's hard to find files that VLC won't play. (Well, of course I mean files that are media files)

I'm trying to put videos on a dvd to be played on my dvd player. I use windows dvd maker but it won't load the mov files and pretty much all the video I'm able to downlaod are mov. I really want to burn them on my blank dvds. Is there a program I can burn mov videos for dvd playback?

go here and investigate burning tools at cnet.com. The link is to the dvd software download page. Most of them will have trials then you'll have to buy but there may be a few free ones on the list. If you do a lot of internet downloading of video files etc... try Plato it works great. You can convert almost any video file from the internet into dvd quality... even streaming video... it's pretty amazing.

try using different brands of dvd blanks. it could be that the one you're using now is not compatible with your home dvd player.

I can't say definitely for your model, but usually laptop CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives are replaceable even if they're not meant to be user replaceable.

Your best option is to take it to a computer repair shop, they can open it up and have a look
(note opening laptops is a very fiddly procedure there is like a million screws and you need a precision screwdriver set to do it.).

If it is, you or the repair shop should be able to purchase a " laptop blu ray drive " from ebay or a computer parts seller. It doesn't matter what make, it's a standard fitting.
