can i download dvd player/burner software that really works? atleast on a trial basis? if so, where?

jo jo

for windows xp on an HP pavillion

Answer
dvd shrink is good software that is free. simple to use and can shrink an 8gb dvd down to 4gb if needed. Then you can burn the iso file using dvd decrypter.

Help me make my DVD player work again. (software problem) Know how...?

Science

My computer has a DVD player (not burner...just player) and I am using windows XP. I also have the latest Windows media player installed. My DVD used to play movies but the computer crashed about 6 months ago and I had to reinstall XP. Now I can play video clips but NOT any DVD movies. From what I have learned...I need the right "codec's" or something? I refuse to PAY for software just to get it to work again like it used to. I have tried downloading 2 different things that claim to make it work. (They DON'T) The first one of you that gives me a link for some download (Free) that will actually get my DVD player working again....will get picked as the winner and get the 10 points. :-) Thank you in advance for your help. (If you need more info to help me get it working feel free to email me) Thank you again. I REALLY want this to work again.

Answer
Hi, I am very experienced with xp. I would tell you that codec packs do more harm than good and that it's easier to use an alternative player for videos and dvd's. I am going to give you the facts and let you decide which codec pack is right for you. See the first link at bottom for instructions and links to shark007. See the second link at bottom if you want to try an alternative player, these players can't be beat.

1. You never want more than one codec pack at a time or you will have conflicts.

2. K-lite codec pack has screwed my system 3 times now, I will never use it again even though it's the most recommned codec pack here at yahoo.

3. Shark007 does not contain a virus it is a false positive in which the owner shark007 has already submitted to the major antivirus companies for review. This pack can make wmp default for all files and is my favorite.

Here are the best codec packs, shark007, media player codec pack, combined community codec pack "cccp", and k-lite codec pack.

http://www.cccp-project.net/ (official site of combined community codec pack. I believe it comes with media player classic also.)

http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm (The infamous k-lite codec pack. I believe this pack can make windows media player the default player. It also comes with media player classic also.)

http://www.mediaplayercodecpack.com/ (Media player codec pack. If you install this do not install any other codec pack before trying this one. This pack makes wmp play dvd's very good. However it does not make wmp default or associate files with wmp. You must right click the files and choose to open them with wmp. Wmp will play the files a message will come up click ok,)

I hope this helps you out. If you need further help post additional details and I will help you. See the link below for official links to shark007 and step by step instructions to install it. See the second link below if you want to try an alternative player.

Afraid of flying, might have to fly to Hawaii?! HELP?

Gracie

Ok heres the story. On Jan. 1st 2013, my mom is flying to Hawaii with her very good friend. Her friend invited her and me and my sister to go to Hawaii with them, but my mom said no. My sister doesnt want to go, but I asked my mom if I could go (she didnt think I would want to go because im scared of flying, and she wanted to relax) but for me its a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Hawaii. We could probably never afford this on our own, and we would have to fly on two flights, first to California, then to Hawaii. But my mom asked her friend if I could go again since they wanted me to go in the first place, and they havent answered because they are at work. But im scared of heights and Im afraid the plane will crash...and we would have to fly OVER THE OCEAN. But again, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I just need to prepare in case I do end up going. Ive only flown when I was really little, so I dont remember much. But what should I expect, and is there a large chance the plane would crash? How should I get over my fear. Also, I should probably mention, sometimes I get panic attacks and Im afraid I might have one on the plane. Thanks everyone.

Answer
First of all, airplane travel is the safest form of transportation. You are more likely to die in a car accident to the airport than you are from an airplane crash.

As for the fear of heights, I am afraid of heights as well but you don't feel it on an airplane. Even though I don't like heights, I try to get a window seat because I like to look out the window and see the scenery, especially when it is time to land.

The flight is long and all you see is water. I have done 2 trips to Hawaii from the mainland. Best thing to do is to sleep especially on the way there because you will be gaining time. You can bring an iPod with music to listen to as well as a portable DVD player to watch a movie. Also bring a book or magazine to read.

I think you should go because Hawaii is a place where everyone should experience at least one time in their life.

Which laptop should I get?

All I want is a suggestion on which one you would choose out of these two laptops if you where me.

The Aleinware 14 (2013 edition)
Pros: -Smaller -More Portable -Lighter -It comes with a blue ray disc loader -Much more cheap (400 Dollars less expensive)

Cons: Unlike the Alienware 17 I cannot upgrade the GPU to the GTX 770m, the highest available selection is the GTX 765m, it only has 1 heat sink & 1 fan for both the GPU and CPU unlike the 17 which has 2 separate ones.

All other specs of the Alienware 14 match the Alienware 17 (like amount of RAM and Hardrive space and CPU)

Here's a picture of the Alienware 14: http://bit.ly/14HyDQA

The Alienware 17 (2013 edition)
Pros: -Bigger 17 inch screen (but same 1920HD screen as the 14 inch model) -Capable of upgrading the GPU from the GTX 765m to the GTX770m -Has two heat sinks, and two fans of course, one for the CPU and one for the GPU

Cons: -Costs 400 dollars more (making a total of 2,100$) -It's bigger, and heavier, thus more difficult to move around -It does not come with a blue ray optical drive, only comes with the standard DVD drive. -Because of a better GPU and a bigger screen, it will have less battery life.

Here's a picture of the Alienware 17: http://bit.ly/1eGDbsr

And this is a size comparison for the 14, 17, and 18 (The 18 being the largest laptop): http://bit.ly/1ekLPPQ

So out of these do which one do you think I should get? (Please don't recommend another laptop, stick to the question :) )

Answer
If you are traveling mostly you would prefer the lighter one (14) but if you prefer to stay long at places you may consider the bigger 17... It would be better if you will also consider your usage since you will be particular in performance cost (ex. start up time). Another thing is would it serve you better if you have blu ray player or just the standard DVD drive. I think it would be better if you compare your needs as to what the computer can do to its limits... ;)
