I am an American living in Japan. As such, I own many DVDs from the US and from Japan. I bought a region 0 DVD player several years ago. I am considering an upgrade to a Blu-Ray player. I know that Blu-Ray region A players will blay BD discs from the US and from Japan, as they are both Region A. I also know that Blu-Ray players are backward-compatible with DVDs. But, will a Blu-Ray player bought in Japan play DVD's from the US?

Because I might have read that software..like Roxio 2011..//plays all the regions..
I would suggest you check that out..
Other than that..you need to read the Specifications of the ITEM at the time of purchase--and make a NOTE of that should you need to make a Return--for false claims.

You would need to buy a model that was made before January of 2011 there are some available but they are usually expensive compared to newer ones... also some newer blue ray disks will not play in it if you try and do an update to it it may disable the Composite function...or even the whole player....and only HDMI will work if its connected to the Internet it may try and do the update on its own which would also disable the player in fact some blu ray disks simply by placing it in the player and pressing play may disable it....
