UK DVD's on US DVD players?

NA2008

will UK dvds play on US dvd players?

Answer
Most UK dvds are region locked to region 2 PAL and will not play. All Warner dvds though are region 0 so UK Warner dvds will play on a US dvd player.

Giving which type of dvd player you have, most are easy to be made region free simply by Googling the make & model number and asking how to. Most players are easy to unlock :)

Which is best type of dvd player to take on holiday to Spain from UK?

LOOBYLOO

Would it be better to buy cheap one there?
Thinking of excess luggage charge, not price of actual dvd

Answer
BUSH DVD PLAYER from Empire Stores
£23.99 Category: DVD Players

Bush DVD Player * Plays all DVD's and CD's * One Scart socket

So, if they can be bought at this sort of price from a catalogue - check somewhere like ASDA/CURRY'S - maybe even cheaper - just remember to buy one with a decent sized screen - no point buying one with less than a 12" screen .

I'll check-out the Spanish prices for you

Are UK movies compatible with American DVD/VCR players?

Q. Hello Yahoo Answers Community :]

So recently I was obsessed with actor Jim Sturgess, and I made a promise to myself that I would watch every single one of his movies [Which I did, by the way]. So far I had only seen 21 and Across the Universe, both american made and directed, and both of which I had on DVD. So I went on a 'watch free movies online' site and watched the UK made and directed film, 'Heartless'. I really really wanted to buy the movie, and I saw that somebody was selling it on eBay. But the listing said something about it being a 'Region 2 PAL' movie, and that it wouldn't be compatible with some DVD players. So my questions are, what is the deal with 'Region 2 PAL' movies, will it play on my standard DVD/VCR player [I think it's Sony], and if not, what can I do to make it compatible? Please help!

Thanks!
~Mari
If you can't tell by the title, yes, I live in America, and we bought a DVD player that would be found in many American households.

Answer
While Region Codes can be hacked and overridden, the PAL TV system used in the UK is entirely incompatible with the NSTC TV system used in America. If you're in the US, then your TV and your DVD player are NTSC.

Your only hope to view PAL DVDs is to make copies using the proper software on your computer. What it does is decode the PAL video to its basic RGB upon ripping, and then re-encodes it to NTSC when burning the copy to a new disc. You'll probably also need additional software to avoid copy protection schemes on the DVD.

They don't make it easy, for sure.

Can British DVDs work in American DVD players?

Cheyenne

I want to order the fourth season of skins on DVD but idk if it will work in my DVD player.
I heard some say it will and vice versa so anyone know for sure?

Answer
It depends on your dvd player. UK disks are coded Region 2 and use PAL video coding. US disks are Region 1 and use NTSC video coding. IF your dvd player was designed to play Region 2 disks and convert PAL to NTSC then yes you can play it (these players are quite expensive and are not usually sold in stores - you have to order them from specialty stores). So if you have a standard dvd player you bought from a regular store then the chances of it playing the British dvds are slim to none.

Is there a Doogie Howser DVD region 2 version i can buy?

Jaime

Does anyone know if there is a doogie howser, md DVD compatible with my DVD player in the UK? I can only find region 1 dvd's and they will not work with my stuff. I need region 2 and does anyone know if there is such a thing or where i can buy it?

Answer
It seems its only available on region 1 and this is direct from wikipedia but: Anchor Bay Entertainment released all 4 seasons of Doogie Howser, M.D. on DVD in Region 1 for the very first time between 2005-2006. As of 2010, these releases have been discontinued and are out of print.
The fact that they have discontinued the region 1 dvds it is very unlikely they will be released on region 2 I'm afraid. If I were you I would invest in a regionless dvd player I picked one up for under â¬50 and it plays all dvds-hoped this helped.

How to burn a dvd with mp4 movie including subtitle which can be played at home dvd player?

Megan Vins

I want to burn a dvd with a mp4 movie including its subtitle which can be playable at home dvd player...most importantly without any video quality loss, with subtitle and less weight so that i can burn as many movies as i can in a DVD5 or DVD9...How do i do it?....i need the best answer since i was trying to burn those movies in a dvd 9.But unfortunately,i don't know what's the reason i succesfully burnt it but its not playing in my home dvd player...Do i still need to keep the mp4 format of the movie or do i have to convert it to any other format so that the weight can be less....??

Answer
DVDs that you play in a DVD player do not have mp4's on them they have .vob files. It sounds like you have just burned an .mp4 onto a DVD and expected it to work in a DVD player because it's on a DVD. Unfortunately that's not the way it works, a DVD player will usually only read a certain format of video and it has to be laid out in a very specific way on the disc. When it is in the correct format it is called a video DVD when it is just an mp4 file or other files (documents or whatever) then it is called a data DVD. Depending on the length of the movie you can probably fit the whole thing onto a dvd5 (single layer) without losing quality but you need to do it through a program like nero (windows) or toast (mac). Select the option that allows you to make a video DVD and the program (assuming it has the correct codecs to be able to read your video file) will create the vob files for you and arrange them on the disk in the correct way.

EDIT: Lossless (no loss of quality) conversion is possible, I do it every day. If you are coming from an HD file though then it will lose quality going to SD (standard definition), or if the video is particularly long then the 'bitrate' (amount of data required to make a second of video) will have to be reduced and you will lose quality. Part of the problem you will find is that most SD videos on the internet are 525i/p at best whereas a UK DVD player will e 625i... The video's may well look better on your computer screen than it will on your TV set (even if you were using the TV set as a monitor for the computer) because of how much better the processing is in a computer graphics card than on a TV set. Either way, you need to download Nero or Toast or some other 3rd party software.

Can any region DVD work on my UK DVD player or a laptop?

magnificen

Someone told me that any region dvd can work on a UK dvd player.

Is this true, or only half true (works on laptops) or completely false?

Answer
No, it's not true. However, you can modify most DVD players by using the remote control and entering a string of numbers and key presses. The trick is to set the region code to 0 (zero).

Look up http://www.dvdcodes.net/ to find out if your DVD player can be modified.

PC DVD players / recorders can be modified by software. You will have to look up the model and search Google.

How to get avi films to play on dvd player?

ferretyles

All the films that I find to download are avi format and when I try to play them in my dvd player it will not accept that format what type of dvd player do I need to get to play these films, I live in the UK.

Answer
The answer is that AVI files need to be converted to DVD format. It does not matter what disc you burn it on DVD-R or DVD+R without the right format it will not play in your DVD player.
You need to run a conversion software. The one I am using now is called convertxtodvd. You have to pay for it, but it is so easy to use. You can choose between PAL and NTSC format (Europe or USA). Just drag and drop the file you want converted into a box and click 1 button. It will even burn it for you too. And it's a relatively quick process. (Depends on your PC and the DVD burner).
There are free shareware programs out there, but from what I have researched many are slow and cumbersome. You could also research DVDFlick or Winavi as alternatives.

How to play an avi file on a normal DVD player without conversion?

Sugama

I am trying to play an avi file on my DVD player but unfortunately it doesnt work. A friend of mine made a DVD disk which had 4 avi movies and they all worked perfectly on my DVD player. Can anyone tell me which software should I use to make my avi movies work on my DVD player perfectly? And from where can I download that software which will make the movie play without conversion? Thanks.

Answer
You need a Divx/AVI/Xvid Compatible DVD Player.

You Probably have a Standard DVD Player which CANT Read AVI.

Hope it helps :)

P.S: Example -> http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=usb+dvd&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=p9Y&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB%3Aofficial&tbm=shop&source=hp&q=usb+divx+dvd&pbx=1&oq=usb+divx+dvd&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=8203l10011l1l10120l5l5l0l0l0l0l255l834l0.2.2l4l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=4d7b0f3fd3f3d03e&biw=1366&bih=585

* EDIT * After Reading The Question :P

Hm, Interesting, Just burn the AVI's as a Data DVD Using Anything...
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=databurner&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=qrt&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB%3Aofficial&source=hp&q=cnet+free+data+burner&pbx=1&oq=cnet+free+data+burner&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=8309l8996l1l9024l5l4l0l0l0l3l327l761l2-2.1l3l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=121f6bf5f6f89279&biw=1366&bih=585
(Cnet.Download.com is a Very Good Site For Downloads)

But it Depends on the AVI Size. (A Normal DVD Holds 4.7GB)
