Please don't go for DVD player. Buy a DivX player. Cost is nearly the same and DivX can play many types of video.

Would a DVD bought in Canada work in my player?

I saw a show I really liked on SoapNet a few years back called Being Erica, but we stopped getting the network on our cable last year. I've looked it up and it's still going, and I'd like to buy the DVDs to keep up with the show since we don't have the network anymore, but it isn't sold here in the U.S.

Wikipedia says it's been released in Canada, and labels Canada as region 1 (which is ours too...right?). But I'm still a little hesitant on paying the money for it only to find out it doesn't work.

I bought a music CD at a Canadian airport back in 2000, and it worked; will the DVDs work too? (Ah...if only we had a multi-regional DVD player!)

It depends on the car you will drive not the country...but generally speaking they have the same technical specifications all over the world :

If anyone has the Tokio Hotel Live Schrei DVD, can you tell me what format it is? PAL or NTSC? I'm looking to buy it as a gift for my friend, but I don't want it to not be compatible with her DVD player.

I think it depends where you order it from. If you order it from the Canada Amazon.com it is sold in NTSC format and will play on her dvd player.

For HD you need a Blu-ray player, not a DVD player. That said, one of the most reasonable is the Insignia player sold at Best Buy (it's their house brand). Netflix and Best Buy just announced a partnership (See link). In Canada the basic player sells for $170 (2nd link).

I suggest anyone replacing a DVD player these days consider a Blu-ray player. Why? Because, that way you have the capability to play Blu-ray disks if/when you find them at an acceptable price, and in the meantime Blu-ray players make a good upscaling DVD player for your existing collection.

How to run a dvd player off a comcast dvr cable box?

Q. I have the cable box run to the tv and can turn it on with no problem. I have the dvd player with all the right connections run to the cable box. I got my comcast remote to turn on the dvd player (as the aux option). But I don't know what button I'm suppossed to be hittting to change from watching the cable to watching a dvd. Any solution would be great.

The Motorola DVR from Comcast has all it's input connections turned off, those are open for the consumers in other countries who have to buy there DVR ( i.e. Canada) The only connections are available are the Composite out put (RGB) RCA, and the RF out, the eaithernet , USB, and Firewire ports are closed, (but there are some who have the Firewire ports open if you have the right drivers for your computer.

The USB ports do have power so you can have a usb light or USB fan (the motorola boxes get really really hot)

The best bet would to go wal-mart or another electronics store and get a system selector they are about 20-50 bucks and allow you to hook up to 8 devices to one RCA input

How can I read a DVD format Canada in the US ?

I bought some DVD with technical specifications: US English, Canada English and French.
I live in the US. I thought I could anyway manage to read the DVD in French but it doesn't work (French doesn't appear in the audio menu). Does anyone know if I can read the DVD in French ?
(I have a mac and a classic DVD player).
